Hi, I drive this stretch of road every night. Tonight the variable limit was 50 with a clear road. I went through stupidly at 70 and got flashed!!! Gutted! It's my fault but was surprised by the fact that I even got flashed...this has never happened before.
Has anyone else been flashed? Also a bit wishful but are they fully operational?

Thanks for the responses

They used not to be operational, but people have recently reported receiving tickets from them, both when the VSL signs are lit up, AND when they're not, contrary to popular belief.

There's a guy on fightback forums who got a ticket for 96 when the gantree wasn't even illuminated, although it was a different gantree to yours IIRC.

Having said that, they flash hundreds of people every day and I doubt they're all issuing tickets, so it looks like it's a bit of a lottery as to whether you get one.

Thanks for letting me know. I had read a few post that they flashed but no ticket received...I expect I will get a letter coming through in the next 14 days. I will post if I do

Got flashed for doing 70 in a 50 there two months back, still haven't received anything. AFAIK they turn the cameras on when the limits change.

so if i'm going down the M25 at say 1am and the road is completely empty and the gantry signs say 40 or 50, what would you do? still go along at 70? or slow down with absolutely no one else around?

ive seen this quite a few times now

The gantry cameras have got very lively just recently, you never used to see them go off, now you do quite a bit.

Well, as I'm sure you know, if the gantry signs are white text with a red ring around them, they're legally enforced speed limits - so whether it looks necessary or not, you'd have no defence if you were caught going faster!

14 days has passed as of today so guess I am in the clear. I don't expect the cameras will just be flashing for long I am sure tickets will follow soon!
