Hi Guys

Today my new E30 320 got delivered to my house!
Its been raced for several seasons and has just had an engine rebuild and suspension overhaul.
It started life as a 318 but had an engine swap at some point in its life.

The current plans (which are already underway) are to make it road legal, temporarily, to take it to as many tracks as possible to prepare for my first season next year!

Unfortunately I can't really say more more than that - I don't know the spec myself! I'll just be driving the thing!

I'm lucky enough to have several instructors training me up, an E30 specialist to help with all the mechanical stuff and a manager to do everything else...

Hopefully when I actually learn about the car I'll be able to let you all know a bit more about it!

Mega excited though! smile Sounds ace!

If I don't do too badly in the series hopefully I'll be driving something a bit quicker in 2016! biggrin

Brillaint.

Im guessing youve been sponsored into the race series then, by the sounds of it with a manager etc?

Could be rather interesting. Much needed for being road legal?

Yeah - got a 1 season trial, if I do well they'll give me another season... So I'm praying I do ok as I couldn't afford to do this on my own!

As far as I know, the car has actually passed its MOT already (we've had it for 6 weeks now, but I've only seen it for the first time today) and apparently its almost ready to be used on the road with just a few more changes to go.

Should be a lot of fun then!!

Congrats on getting a season out of it, plenty of experience to be gained. So this, the RX7&8, your car list is pretty impressive really

Awesome! Come and race in the Production BMW Championship with me =)

It's one of the best one-make series in the UK with fantastic close racing throughout the field.

That car looks nice, by the way. Mine is a total shed.

Cheers - I'd like to think I'm doing ok - 22 years old with no education higher than GCSE level. Who needs good grades to enjoy life aye? smile

We've not decided what series I'll be doing yet - I imagine the PBMW will be one of the ones the team are looking at sticking me in though!

Yours looks lovely in red! smile

Good luck with the racing.

My boss did a couple of seasons in it. His car is still sitting outside my office in the showroom.

He had great fun doing it.

I've seen this series, it's nice and tight, because the modifications are so limited. Good luck and enjoy.

So I've finally got around to doing a few practice sessions - a test day at Brands Hatch and a track day at Silverstone.

Wow - what a car, its not particularly fast but it feels fantastic to drive, I can see where all the E30 hype comes from, I can only dream what the E30 M3 feels like! There is so much grip, so much feedback - oh and that straight 6 roar - its marvelous! I still stand by my comments that nothing sounds better than a rotary though!

I am still learning, so I'm not exactly setting lap records, so far in the car my best lap at Brands was 00:61 and my best at Silverstone was 2:52.2 - both times was on tyres that are well and truly fked, both times I'd had about 2 hours sleep the night before and at Brands my brakes were knackered too - already got the racing driver excuses down to a Tee!

Here is some footage of me on an empty Silverstone:

Here is some footage of me chasing an MX5 Supercup. As you can see, I'm totally inexperienced at actually racing, not really knowing when to go for an overtake or not - that's mainly a fear of being black flagged though, I'm a goody goody and don't like being told off! tongue out

Annoyingly I was a much quicker and the MX5 slowed me down massively - which makes it even more of a shame I'm not really confident among 'traffic' yet!

I did improve massively throughout the day though, at one point there as a Clio 182 race car that I was about even with, by the end of the day my laps were 9 seconds quicker than theirs. I'm pretty chuffed about that!

My first race is April 23rd at Silverstone! Can't wait! Hopefully everyone will go easy on me! biggrin

Oh, and more photos:

Looks awesome! (almost exactly the same as mine)
I bought mine mid last year and I agree with you in that you can instantly understand all the hype behind the car. I'm too scared to race mine along side other cars so I'm sticking to track days and time trials. I may even do enter the UK time attack in the clubman class next year if i can get all the safety gear in place. Sounds like you be perfectly setup to tackle that already.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on racing! Maybe one day i could be tempted.

P.S. my E30
