Buying Advice for Audi A8 (D3) - miles or miles/yr?

Scanning classifieds for an A8 3.0TDI, I'm struck by mileage on some of these beasts. Should I consider a 2007 (07) with 164,000+ miles on the clock a bargain at £7k, or should I run a mile? What of a 2009 (09) with 159,000 at £10k? With so much driving behind them, would buying either represent a false economy, setting me up for ballache and mi$ery, with multiple parts and subsystems starting to fail en masse?
I've never had an Audi, but over the years I've developed a feeling for that understated aesthetic that belies the grunt of - ahem! - say, an S8 (drool). What's the record of these bigger cars as they approach a decade old etc? What's the dominant factor, Age, Miles, Miles/year, or other?
(Could plonk cash down as deposit for newer car, I suppose, but D3 just appeals to me hugely..! :-)
