Does anyone else think this advice of not driving the morning after is a bit misleading and potentially unhelpful?

What with the new law in Scotland coming into effect, I've seen it trotted out a few times now on facebook and the like. I don't know many people who only have a few drinks when they go on a night out, it's usually a relatively heavy session. I doubt I'd have been to alright to drive at any point last Sunday after the night out on the Saturday so I went nowhere near the car.

So how many people are still going to have a fairly heavy night and think oh, it's lunch time, I'll be ok now and end up driving around way over the limit because, in fact, they shouldn't have been driving for hours yet?

If I have a heavy night then I go no where near my car for 24 hours afterwards. Its always been the case for me. Other people "recover" better, but that isn't a guarantee.

I'm thinking more for naive folk that don't think about it as only being 9/10 hours since their last drink.

Last month, I've successfully passed a drugs and alcohol test, after quite a heavy session the previous evening. drink [Plenty of these consumed]

Depends just how much has been consumed.

I regularly have 4 pints on a friday early evening (5 until around 6.30/7) then a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, total probably in the region of 14/15 units, and have checked myself with a breath tester 8ish the next morning, approx 10hrs after the last drink and registered nothing more than trace.

I'm thinking more someone who's been drinking from 8pm-2am.

I bought myself a breathalyser machine for the morning after. I usually stop drinking by 2am and have found several times I am more than double the legal limit at 10am the next day. Its usually down to Zero by 1am after even the most epic of sessions. If the machine shows even a trace of alcohol I dont go near the car, I will only consider driving when it shows Zero.

I was on it last night, stopped at 12, used one of my breathalizers (those cheap ones you take to france) and it said I was under. Not a change in hell was I under!

Still, got in the car and drove to work. No, really, I got a cab to work. Missus picking me up later.

I think ultimately the responsibility lies with the individual, because everyone processes alcohol differently.
