Im currently look to purchase a car that has had a remap (alfa 159) and was wondering if/who I could use to insure it. As a 38 year old male, no points etc, insurance for myself will be easy. However my girlfriend is currently learning to drive and I was told by Chris Knott insurance that I would be unable to add her to the policy either as a learner or a new driver (until 1 years worth of experience has been acquired).

Clearly, buying a non-modified car is an easy alternative, but before I go down that route I am wondering if anyone can recommend an insurer that could help?

Any advice much appreciated.

I insure a heavily modified BMW through Competition Car Insurance on 0844 892 1966. They also cover my M3 and offered a much lower premium than all the other quotes I had.

Admiral for my TTS (ECU, Exhaust, Turbo declared) seemed to be the best and bizarrely, an exhaust modification had no effect on the cost of the policy, have you tried normal comparison websites?

It was more the fact that I was told that for modified cars, new drivers will always need a minimum of 1 years experience. Thanks for the recommendations though, I'll give them a try. Just wanted to see if this is a general directive.

Most modified car insurance policies do require 1 year of private NCD. Greenlight is the same. You could try Adrian Flux. I think the issue is finding an underwriter willing to add a learner driver to the policy regardless of the car being modified (if is just a remap the modification may not be a big issue for them).
