Do you always have to be right?
Discussion
I'm a pretty new member but think I've had enough of seeing (occasionally) bickering and borderline insults, without naming names.
They're not aimed at me but even as an occasional visitor with no axe to grind, they're a bit disappointing. They spoil my view of what is usually a fantastic forum with fantastic people saying fantastically helpful things.
I don't feel the need to always be right. I don't mind someone disagreeing with me, even on a matter of fact.
Let's have good chat and debate, but let's chill. And accept we are sometimes wrong.
Thanks.

I know exactly where you are coming from there. I think with Forums you always get opinionated members, I always thought that blatchat (Caterham forum)was the worst forum for that , that was until I bought my first Boxster and started to post on the Porsche section of Pistonheads which would be around 4 years ago, I posted a few questions and at that time there was no sub section for Boxster/Cayman and I was gobsmacked at how many pratts posted on there , What also amazed me was although we are like minded petrol heads within the Porsche forum there was interbrand snobbery, Boxster related questions got very little response usually replies like go to boxa.net and it was as though Boxster owners were frowned upon by 911 owners and unbelievably 911 owners were looked down upon from those that owned Gt3"s/turbos and the likes, One example was before I bought my 911 I asked a question about how many mpg I could get doing long runs as I doing a lot of miles at that time, the first reply I got was "if you need to ask you cant afford one" pretty much finished for me and I never bothered. They're not aimed at me but even as an occasional visitor with no axe to grind, they're a bit disappointing. Since buying another Boxster I have only just started reading and replying to the odd post and I Have to say it is better now there is a sub section for Boxster/Cayman the 911 owners don't have to lower themselves to read our posts but like any other forum it still attracts keyboard warriors and as we have no idea who each poster is other than a link to their profile we have no idea what experience they have to back up any replies.
Unfortunately a few regular posters can quickly spoil a good forum , I have seem it be the demise of a couple of forums, one of which I was a member of for 10 years and an Area Organiser, after seeing the same people posting the same drivel daily and the same people getting into petty school yard type arguments it quickly goes down hill, even it starts out as just banter it can come across badly especially to new people looking in and human nature if you find someone that you clash with rather than ignore them if you see them posting you cant help reading the crap that they spout just to annoy you even more

All very reassuring comments, thanks guys.
It is a great forum and although I don't post here much I visit fairly often and pick up useful stuff.
Confidence restored.

8 posts 6 months ? Active or what ? You haven't tried very hard to get trolled, have you? Post something we can all take the piss out of. It is a great forum and although I don't post here much I visit fairly often and pick up useful stuff.

Who said that ?
The forum is too wide a base, so some are right saying goto boxa.net or Rennlist or plannet9 or 911uk or even PCGB.
Classic 911.
PH is a banter thread with guys buying Macans for there other halfs right to guys only thinking the 996gt3 is the last true drivers car, to old air cooler stuff.
So unless you are a yes man and love every thing ever posted there will always be banter.
THe issue is when people have an opinion, and other people are stupid enough to either think it's fact or don't have their own and then the abuse starts.

Often, the written word is very cold and its not easy to tell whether someone is being serious, having a wind up, or somewhere in between. Theres no intonation on the page or facial expressions! Maybe we should all use the smilies more?
Add to that the Porsche 'community' is very diverse from Macan 'status posers' to serious 2.8RSR track drivers.
The gearbox debate is a good example, people are coming from different angles with different preferences and requirements.
Its hard for a 991 owner doing 20k business miles a year to be on the same page as a classic owner doing track days and Euro hoons! Its just not the same thing.
But to be honest, I do like the banter!

It would be sooooo dull if we all got along on here, I quite enjoy reading the banter and the outspoken characters, every now and again a complete bellend appears with the sole intent of ruffling a few feathers but ultimately the one thing we all share is the love of cars, however, if you're a sensitive wall flower this isn't the place for you
Just remember that cmoose and mrdemon constantly confuse their opinion with fact and you won't go far wrong....
eta apart from mrdemons views on GT3's, as I think I'm the only person on here to pretty much agree with them then they must be fact...

One of the great things about owning a Boxster is that just about everyone looks down on you - while you have the satisfaction of knowing you drive one of the world's best sportscars available at any price!
Let's face it, Boxster is almost certainly the world's biggest selling mid-engined sportscar of all time.
[Toyota sold about 330,000 MR2s across the 3 generations of production. Porsche built its 300,000th Boxster/Cayman back in 2011.]
