Letter to Santa - Lego content
Discussion
About 4 week's ago we started the "What do you want from Santa" conversation with my 5 year old son.
"Lego Arctic Base Camp" came the reply. Happily Target had a 20% off Lego sale, so off I went and got this:

And this from his grandparent's (who are overseas so send money for us to buy him something)

And this, just in case it was required at some point (his birthday is in Jan)

We hadn't written the letter to Santa yet
Last weekend we walked past the local toyshop. They had new Lego in the window......including this which sparked a lot of comments like "Dad, Dad! Look at the train."

During the week he announces at dinner that they've written a letter to Santa at school............my stomach sank, and it wasn't the quickly thrown together pork stir fry's fault.
"What did you ask him for?" I asked with trepidation
"Don't have to tell you. It is in the letter to Santa, so he knows." came the reply.
"Oh come on," said my wife "We're just interested to know what you asked for."
"The Lego Diesel train like the one in the toyshop window" came the reply.
"f
k" said I (silently obviously).
So now there is a slight problem - close to $300 of Lego in the garage already and he has changed his mind AND written it in a letter to Santa.
Fortunately my wife teaches at the same school, so was able to see and verify the letter (imagine the poor sods who haven't even been told about the letter and have no idea little Brucie has asked for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle My Little Leap Pad and therefore have a clusterf
k to deal with when Santa brings him Power Ranger slippers - wifey has been told to tell the ditsy prep teacher writing a letter to Santa and not sending a copy home is a bad idea.)
So, Saturday morning I pop to the shops to drop off my dry cleaning and just happen to find myself in the toyshop. Fortunately we have a reward card and get 10% off there, so the $300 train set is only $270. (I was eyeing off extra track but the little f
ker can buy that himself with any money he gets.)
Oh, and I'm keeping Benny's spaceship for myself.
(I've wanted a Lego train for a while but have been struggling to justify it so it isn't all bad
)

Huh? Just do what I did last year: Tell them Father Christmas doens't exist. Sorted.
I'm pretty sure our two carried on believing in Father Christmas for as long as possible - on the basis that they got more presents that way!Jader1973 said:

Kid's going to grow up thinking he can get everything he wants just by asking.
Does he choose your home/furniture/cars too?
Don't be silly.Does he choose your home/furniture/cars too?
What would have happened if he'd have requested a 1:1 scale Gulfstream business jet?
its Christmas so spoil them & enjoy the fun you will have with him , although you may be doing majority of building , I myself don't have presents but buy the lego for my lad & it goes with our collection,
as say let the train be from santa & the exo suit or artic be from yourselfs, or save till his birthday, least he asked for lego

I am however happy to buy him Lego as, once it has been built as per instructions, played with and then demolished, it allows him to be creative, both with his play and his re-building. And getting him the train kills two birds with one stone - a train set and Lego
(and I can play with it too!)I think next year may need to be an "either, or" list so we have some options
