I went to look at an SLK (R171) today - and both binnacle LCD panels had faulty/leaky pixels. They were quite bad, 5cm/sq on each one.

Obviously Merc want sill money as they replace the whole setup, but I just wondered if anyone had had repaired it for reasonable money? It looks pretty much identical to this:

Have not seen or heard of this despite being active in slk forum's for some time. Maybe try mbez forums and slkworld, I think this binnacle lcd screen is shared amongst a few models.

Found some replacement panels for 170eur, but just interested to see if anyone had any experience with it here.

Experience, yes, fixed, no! Was on my CLK. Bit annoying but it was over the time so not a great problem.

How easy were they to get out of the dash/cockpit?

I enjoy working on my cars except interiors can be skinning of knuckle spanner throwing affairs!. Where'd you get replacements LCD panels from?. might keep a note incase mine go. Thanks for any info.

There is a DIY guide here:

"looks" fairly easy. Couple of places you can get them from, they're here for 170eur, but site looks dodgy!
