that when I search google for something i get 12,000 sites in 0.27 seconds, and yet when I search MY PC for a word file I had 2 weeks ago it takes an hour and a half?

I read somewhere the other day, The Economist I think, that Google has a complete index of the world wide web on its servers, so when you hit search you're just searching their index using their powerful server, it's not searching the web in real time. A humble PC takes a long time to search a hard drive, especially if you're looking for text within a document rather than just a filename
