Have been working away from home a lot recently and had time to idly browse some threads and classifieds and got reading about the original RS6. Now, I had been in one of these when they were new and Dad was test-driving them and have kept an eye on them ever since (clearly an impressionable youth - the same thing happened with an M3 CSL which we test drove in 2003 and I then bought in 2010). Came close to buying an RS6 few years ago but ultimately ended up getting the "sensible" Cayenne as a family car instead.
The search for my true toy car continues - I need a sports car again to complement a Discovery - but winter is here and an advertisement popped up that caught my attention. It was clearly fate as (i) I managed to fly back a day early and (ii) the car was 10 minutes from my office in London. A quick viewing, test drive and deal completed in a matter of hours and I found myself driving it home on Thursday night.
Nothing like an impulse purchase to start the weekend with...
First impressions - acceleration is just comedy. No other word for it. Dynamically it is not amazing but it's not bad. The car is running on Bilstein PSS9s which I think are at their lowest level so it handles better than others I have driven. I need to get it raised slightly to make it a little more comfortable on the country lanes (any recommendations of suspension specialists on the Surrey/Hants border gratefully received!). The gearbox will be a constant worry, so much power going through it so will be keeping an eye on that, but shifts smoothly at the moment.
Interior is in great condition for the age of the car - usual age related problems of seals going will need to be sorted in due course but not the end of the world for now, though I could have done without the ice on the inside on Saturday morning. Externally it's not in bad shape - could do with a front end respray and some of the black chrome touching up, but other than that it hides its age well.
Will keep this updated with the ups and downs the ownership of one of these will inevitably bring.

Great idea. MRC look after my car and can't fault them. Mine is running PSS9's also and has had the MRC stage 2 treatment with a non res Miltek. I don't live far from MRC so if you want to have a look at mine and what the stage 2 does then drop me a line I think I will be making my way to MRC to get the suspension looked at and give it the once over - though the car is already known to them.

Quick update now my sense of humour failure has been resolved - I have already goosed it...
Working away from home at the moment and left the car outside in the recent storms. Turns out the plenum drain was blocked (common problem evidently), which promptly deposited 2-3 pints of water in the footwells, front and rear.
Cue no drive from the gearbox and electrical problems galore. I don't think the TCU was made for swimming and will almost certainly need replacing, as will any control units and wiring that have been immersed on water. Audi use steel crimps on various junctions in the loom and these corrode and fall to pieces...
I knew it was expensive to run, but I must confess I didn't expect a large bill quite so soon!

Ouch! I had the same thing happen to my CL500, all the heating, auto wipers, auto lights, A/C etc... failed, I couldn't work out why, then saw the 3 inch puddle in the passenger footwell... £700 later it was all fixed. It's annoying as it's such a simple problem that causes so much damage!
I hope your luck turns with this though. I love the RS6, and have always wanted one but never had the stones to make the leap.
