Folks, my parents have asked me to buy them a 500C- do they leak? Anybody got experience on deals available, Broadspeed seem to be able to offer a couple of grand on some models? Any input greatly appreciated.

hehe That's hilarious. I live in a valley with a 10% hill on each side. It's not a problem in our 1.2 500, even from cold. Maybe they're trying it with 4 "Clydesdale" adults aboard?

Back in the late 70s we had an original Fiat 500, which required everyone except the driver to get out and walk in order for the car to get to the top of a hill. Now that was properly underpowered.

Reading the article it appears it is only the 2014 models that are effected Fiat did some sort of tweak to lower the Co2 and it has had an dramatic effect on its performance...

Apparently they've "retuned" the 500's 1.2 engine for emissions legislation, and as a result it's made it impossible to get up steep hills! There was a video on watchdog with the presenter and ex-Stig Ben Collins - no amount of revs would make it get up some steep hills in Bristol - even heavily slipping the clutch, it would eventually conk out.

Oh dear... that'll be a seemingly deserved kick in the 'nads for Fiat then.

We're eyeing up a 500C Abarth next year, I'll have to check if that's being detrimentally upgraded too.

I imagine all the CO2 saved by this eco bks of re tuning the engine, will be quickly negated by all the CO2 produced from the manufacture of all those extra 1.2 500 clutch packs...

My mother has had one for a few years.

It did actually leak after a few months, but Fiat fitted a revised part and it has been fine since then (although they did have to argue about getting some interior trim replaced too, as it had been stained by the water ingress. After a bit of shouting Fiat UK agreed and replaced the trim too.

It has been watertight since then, so I wouldnt worry.

Otherwise its been a very reliable little car, and is good fun to drive too.
Thanks, can you remember what had to be replaced to cure the leak?
