My Second Car... MG TF 115

So, After 5 months and 5 days of driving around in my 1992 Polo breadvan
I was very very bored... The polo was a good car and reliable for a first car, but being used to motorbikes, was painfully slow.

So i wanted something a bit more fun, I refused to pay an insane insurance premium.. So i wanted something cheap to insure and fun to drive...

Originally i was looking for an MX5... After clicking a few links here and there ended up looking at MG TF's
Got Myself an insurance quote, Aged 20, 0 Yrs NCD & only been driving 5 months. This MG was actually cheaper to insure than a 1.2 vauxhall corsa.

So here it is... My £800 MG TF 115
Recent Headgasket, Cambelt, Waterpump & stainless waterpipes
12 Months fresh MOT, 52,000 miles backed up with plenty of service history and in generally good condition...

Here she is after picking her up on saturday...

The worrying part is I paid about £17,500 for the thing.

To be fair that is quite likely if i don't change these awful tyres!
Previous owner has 2 cheapo tyres up front (at least they are the same brand)
A brand new budget tyre on the rear left (different to the fronts)
and an budget tyre with about 2mm tread left on the rear right (different again to all the other tyres!)

So will be getting it to the tyre shop at the weekend for 4 decent matching tyres!
especially as my commute to work is country lans which get rather slippery

I like to shy away from the fact that's its a 12 year old MG... Forget it's only a 1.6... And just remeber it's mid engined and rear wheel drive

At least that's the only parts i'll mention at the pub

I've always enjoyed driving the 1.6 TF's-the engine is the sweetest revving standard K-Series (maybe apart from the VVC) and the smaller wheels make the handling more fluid (early TF's with the 16" wheels and harder suspension can be very crashy and lumpen to drive IMO).

Top buy for £800 too!

Get yourself onto the MG-Rover.org forum to read up about what tyres to get. I've got a TF myself and they are a bit sensitive to tyre choice - currently running mine on Falkens although will be putting my Toyo winter tyres on this weekend.

Got myself signed up on there yesterday, appears to be some good information available, a good little community it would seem.

Think i too am going to opt for a set of Toyo T1R's all round

Had the car just over a week now, managed about 500 miles already and already got various parts on order to try and bring the car up to date a little bit...

Last night fitted some new LED Dial illumination bulbs, as one of them had blown, so thought i might aswell change them for LED's and remove the yellow light filter...
