Driving to and from work during rush hour, I get many opportunities to let people in and out of various roads/situations. It seems every other time now I'll let someone out and they won't be f
ng looking at me!! When I'm looking to pull out of a junction I've got my eyes fixed on the oncoming traffic waiting for a signal from a kind member of the community, so how come whenever I decide to let someone out they're either distracted by something else or their leg's dead and they can't physically accelerate?
What ends up happening is some f
ckwit will be waiting to pull out of somewhere, I'll pepper them in flashes and they'll be looking somewhere else!! It's only when I'll have totally stopped and then started moving again cursing them, that they decide to realise my proposition and start moving forward!! When this happens I now put my foot down and block them out, should've been f
ng looking!!!!!
Please tell me I'm not alone

Stop trying to direct traffic!
I'm getting fed up of the well-intentioned but unthinking clots who think I am being ungrateful when I refuse their offer to turn in front of them (either into or out of a sidestreet) when they have slowed and flashed. These people have no consideration for the road BEHIND them. The cars following have no way of knowing why clot has slowed (are they turning left and forgot to indicate?? have they a mechanical problem??) and could just as easily pull out to overtake and then smack straight into me if I accept the flashed invite from well-meaning idiot, and of course the resulting accident would be my fault.
Just drive on - I am perfectly capable of judging the road and pulling out or turning after you.
Only time I will leave a gap for someone is if I am in a line of crawling traffic or stopped at lights and I would otherwise be blocking a side street or driveway with someone obviously waiting to get in or out. I will leave it up to people waiting to turn to decide if it is safe to do so - no flashes or waves on from me!
This sort of perversion of the rules of right-of-way are responsible for the growing number of idiots who think the rules have changed and that people entering on a slip-road have priority. Lost count of the indignant faces I have seen when I refused to move to the middle lane into someone elses braking zone just to let the eejit out. There are plenty of times when I will move over because it is safe to do so, but the people who selfishly expect it every time clearly forget you have to be aware of all the vehicles affected. Just as bad are the fools who do pull into my braking zone in order to accomodate the eejit.

Your not the guy that pulled out behind me just before sunningdale on the a30 in a dark e class diesel wearing a silly hat and preceded to overtake 4 cars in a row on the chevrons kicking up loads of stones in a 40 limit must of hit at least 60 plus before pulling back in just before sytners I think the car at the very front flashed you out but you waited so you could fling stones at everyone instead and show of your yellow tea Cosy hat almost thought you were Russ abbot
Hmmm
I dont brake suddenly fromspeed limit to let people out, but if traffic is crawling and I see that I can gently ease off and create a big enough gap, I will let people out.
SOmetimes pople have flashed me to say "oi, pull out, im giving you room" but they seem to be traveeling quite fast still, so I wont bother. The other one I dont like is when I;ve been waved past by a vehicle in front when I've been on my bike. I prefer to weigh up my overtaking opportunities

I'm talking about being in rush hour traffic, where you're just crawling along. Flashing someone to merge in front of you shouldn't affect the traffic behind you. It's only when I have to stop because of an idiot that's not with it that the traffic behind is then having to stop, thus me getting annoyed because this idiot is holding everyone up due to not paying any attention whatsoever. I know it is well intentioned, but don't alter your speed to make someone else's life easier. It is people like you who cause crashes behind them,
Traffic acts like a fluid, you slow unexpectedly, this then makes the car behind you brake a little later, the one behind them later and harder still, the one behind them suddenly finds themself braking quite firmly, the one behind them thinks this a free flowing road and is not paying attention.....Bang!
Now i know that the scenario could have been avoided if everyone paid attention and maintained a suitable gap, but folk don't and your 'flashing someone out' could very easily end up in a bump 50 yards back.
Don't do it, let them make their own mind up

I, too, get irked by the driver ahead in in-town traffic, running smoothly along at c.25-30, who decides without looking their rear view mirror to be the gentleman/lady and let that car out of the side road. Suddenly, they stop abruptly and the side road car driver, as surprised as I am behind Mr/Ms Gallant, hesitates and causes a disproportional hiatus in the smooth flow of main-road traffic. If there's nowhere for you to go and the traffic is stop-start, fine. But when it's running nicely, why bugger it up on a whim and risk a rear-end shunt?
If I see someone waiting to come out of a side road I have a look behind me, if it's a continual line of cars and we are all going quite slowly I will let them out, because I know no-one else will. But I always give them several flashes and often still end up having to drive past them because they are looking the wrong way.

I've made the point already - it is not up to you to decide for them whether it is safe to pull out or not. What is the likelihood that they have spotted something you haven't that makes their progression dangerous for them or others?Even if they haven't they should not be reading any meaning into your ambiguous signals. For all they know you might have been trying to tell someone coming the other way they'd forgot to put their headlights on.
You mistake them refusing your potentially misguided courtesy for inattention or ignorance.

It pees me off when someone (it turns out) is letting me out but doesn't give any sort of signal at all other than a blank stare and it only becomes clear what's going on after 4 seconds of everyone sitting still looking at each other like bellends. It's as if they're letting you out but they want you to feel like it's an imposition.

Never slow the mainline road to let side road traffic out.
So don't flash people out ever. Let them make their own decisions.
I'm talking about in thick, rush hour traffic here. I'm not really altering any traffic patterns and to be quite honest if someone bumps into the back of someone at a couple of miles an hour they deserve to be off the road anyway. That is not my fault and you're utterly deluded if you think it is.
The 'I'll let myself out when I want' post is ridiculous, in rush hour traffic down some of the long roads I go down you'd be waiting for hours..
Now I too hate the people who at a built up speed brake suddenly to let people out but we're talking about rush hour traffic!!!!!
To the people who are saying you'll cause crashes doing that I think you're being stupid. Think about it, think about what your saying - if someone isn't able to deal with a simple change of speed then why are they driving?

You are not alone. If someone doesn't make eye contact i.e they are looking at their sprogs, phone, opposite direction I carry on driving. I've flashed people and they still sit there like dumb morons so I drive past them - they've had a chance, they didn't take it.
You gotta be alert in this game

You seem to be deliberately ignoring the point of the original post in order to push your opinion on something else. The OP is talking about letting people out into almost stationary, not 70mph, traffic. Based on what you say, I assume that when the main road has 3 miles of nose to tail traffic, you would prefer to wait in the side road until rush hour is over, thereby pissing off all the people behind you and making them late as well.
OP - yes I agree, why don't people trying to get out of s junction bloody well look at what's going on, they can't all be r11co's friends who are determined to sit there all day
