It lets the side down a little - especially few years down the line:

Inspired by Karl Franz's epic DIY full body wrap I thought I might tackle a carbon fibre look wrap for this 1 panel over Xmas - and especially after I saw a nice one at Burleigh in solid carbon fibre. Might be a £50 job :-)

Anyone done it or similar and have any advice - will heat be an issue do you think?

Cheers

Have you Seen what this place can do

They dip your item into a bath with a carbon effect coating. Check their gallery out.
It looks very impressive.

I will second the recommendation for the hydrowrap from wicked coatings - I haven't had a car part done but did have a golf trolley worked on. It's in their monthly newsletter and I can assure you that the results have been truly brilliant and for a good price. Service spot on. Just a thought anyway and I suspect it is a lot better than a wrap. By the way, no links to the company except that they did a great job.

I know my engine bay gets awfully hot. It would really suck if the carbon wrap were to come off and get caught up somewhere else under there. Are you sure the vinyl wrap can take the heat? I once wrapped my nav ski slope with the scotch 1080 cf vinyl, and while it looked pretty good, it didn't look nearly as nice as the real carbon I had elsewhere, because you can't get a gloss and you can just "tell" it's vinyl, even the dinoc stuff. So I took it off and am waiting for a real carbon cover for my ski slope, but it's going to look even better than the wrap.

New one on me that hydrodipping - sounds more durable than vinyl... V12 warms the garage for 4 hours after switch off = lots of heat!

Ohh and V8 animal they DO Santas but wouldnt be caught dead with a blue or GREEN one!!!silly

During my (epic?) Car Wrap Project, I experimented with wrapping the radiator cover with 3M Carbon 1080 film.

I would suggest you start with something a bit easier first. All the hill and valley contours of the radiator cover make it a bit of a challenge if you've never attempted wrapping anything before.

Here's what it looked like:

You might find it doesn't stick very well. Wraps normally need a gloss surface to attach properly.

That's what I'm talking about Karl! Looks great - and yes any single project that takes over a month of weekends and evenings is epic! I'm just happy to do an oil change or brake pads and disks! Actually your pic angle really shows all the ups/and downs on that panel better and shows how tricky it might be (even if its not really on show). I also just remembered I always paint the house as I vowed to never wallpaper again!!!

Going to see if anyone a bit more local to me than the dipping thing.smile

Cheers
