BMW M235i

Had my car a couple of months now so thought I would put a few pictures up on here. Originally I was thinking of looking at a golf r but decided to try something different away from the vag group. So whilst having a browse on the BMW stand at Goodwood FOS in June I had a good poke around a 235 they had on display, really liked the look of it cue dealer visit and car ordered.
Kept the spec fairly basic with auto and Harmon kardon been the main options.
Anyway enough rambling pictures

Nice. The only niggle I have with the M235i is the wheels! I think an extra inch would not have gone a miss. Tempted by an M135i or M235i but outta my price range! Well what I feel comfortable paying. Did you get a good deal? Pcp, Hp etc?

Agreed-although surely it'd adversely affect the ride/handling?

Having seen the wheels in pictures I wasn't too keen but seeing them in the flesh they have certainly grown on me don't think I would want them any bigger tbh I think the ride would be too firm (for me anyway). Yes managed to negotiate what I felt was a good deal on a PCP after the usual rubbish from dealers saying that there were no discounts available

Love the car, but that rear end is a bit odd, I can't work out what is odd about it. Monster of a car, that engine is phenomenal!

Looks good to me, I actually think these make more sense the more basic they are. I seen one in red at the weekend and it looked great.

Cheers guys the engine is certainly the feature that defines the car. Sounds great (to me) especially on cold start up where you get a loud blare through the right exhaust and also you can hear the turbo spooling when driving harder. Also it pulls like a diesel from the bottom end a really tractable unit any gear your away. Didn't test drive a manual one as soon as I drove the auto I was sold as it always seems to be in the right gear at the right time. Its very smooth and fast in manual mode to the point you think it's a dual clutch. Mega :-D

I've only driven this engine fitted to a one series, and was massively impressed with the engine and the eight speed auto.

I've never driven a manual version, but I thought the auto was that good I think I'd opt for the two pedal car.

Thanks. As for the remap they have only just become available through DMS however I can't see myself having my car mapped as its a more than quick enough in standard form. Remap is taking the torque figure to around 450-475lb/ft a fair chunk more than m3/m4 with 406lb/ft.

Very nice OP and a lovely colour combo too the 8 speed auto is a cracking gearbox...I think I would go for the manual though even though the auto will be miles quicker.

Enjoy it and I think they make a perfect daily driver and I would love one myself, have fun.

Looks fantastic! The M235i styling wise looks much improved over the 1 series coupe, and I didn't mind the styling of that either.

Thanks very much. Really impressed with it. Also worth mentioning is the mpg (not the point of the car I know) but on decent motorway runs at 70 its doing around 40mpg and my average in 1600 miles is around 28mpg which I thinks pretty good for what it is.Admittedly 1200 miles of that was running in though.

Put in an order for one of these myself last month, albeit mineral grey / oyster. Car's been built and is on its way to the EU port - should be with me 1st week in Jan. Can't wait.

How are you getting on with the ZF 8 speed? Do you ever use it manually?

This will be my first venture down the auto route - have always been a manual purist and am currently running a 135i coupé in manual - so curious to see how the ZF will fare on the roads. I certainly liked it on the test drive I had before I ordered the M235i.

Cheers. ZF8 is very good usually use the car in automatic/comfort mode where the box changes up fairly early (plenty of torque low down though so not a problem) but is quick to kickdown if you need any extra power. I do use the car in manual/sport pretty often and the car reacts very quickly to the paddles and manual really does mean manual it doesn't override unless the cars going to stall. Also worth noting as I didn't get shown on the test drive is that moving the switch next to the gearlever to sport hardens the engine note and introduces pops on the overrun. :-)

So will the excellent M235i steal sales from Audi/Mercedes, or from the M3/M4/.M135i?

Will it affect the demand for the M2, dampen 1M prices?

So much choice. Petrol headers have never known it good.
