Hi Guys,

Before I start let me tell you I am a Jag fan through and through, love them to bits and always will and exude a certain coolness you just don't get from a German car, no matter how technically good they are, however I have had 2 years of handling and steering issues, first with my XFR and then with my XJ Supersport.

Fantastic cars both, especially the XJ, world class in every respect and ticks a multitude of boxes, design, performance (from the 5.0 V8 SC) and the interior is in my opinion the best in the world, one tick missing though is the one called DRIVING PLEASURE.......

The steering judders badly at parking speeds and at speed when the suspension is loaded the car judders through the steering wheel, feels nasty like force feedback on a Playstation wheel, this isn't track attack style driving, just brisk road driving and can occur on all sorts of different road surfaces, rough, smooth, there is no difference.

Also (and you should see the dealers face when I say this) is feels like the wheels are moving around, as in back and forth, rather than up and down when you hit a bump and generally feels like it has 100,000 more miles on that it does (it has 27,000 miles on it).

Between them they have been back to 4 dealers and the factory and I am constantly told geometry is bang on, bushes are ok, no play in any component, tyres have been replaced, steering rack is fine etc etc.

I am completely at a loss as while I love my Jag that driving pleasure box is a big one, as it is for most people on here, does anyone have any thoughts before I end my life and buy a German diesel?!!!!!

Please help!!!

What size wheels? my first port of call would be a smaller set to test.

Has anyone else driven it and confirmed there's something wrong?

20's, all standard stuff with Jag spec tyres, tried the XFR-S spec Pirelli's on my old car too, same problem.

Lots of people driven it, particularly Jag staff, all say its fine but also say none of them drove it that quick as its a customers car.....lots of Jag forums have guys on there with the same problem but as yet not able to find an answer....I have driven new XJ's/XF's and they don't seem as bad, which suggests a worn component, but 27k miles?!

That's the bit I find hard to compute. There shouldn't be enough force on the wheels at parking speeds to cause juddering of the steering.

I'd be looking at the power steering system for faults.

I agree, it shouldn't!

Its when your twirling the wheel during a parking manoeuvre the things judders, very odd, in fact there was a court case in the states over the same thing but I cannot find a conclusion!!!

Do you think you'd be able to capture the effect in a video?

The parking issue in particular sounds very odd.

I had this on an Audi and it was the power steering system at fault. Turn wheel whilst manouvering and it seemed like the old x-box 360 crap-feedback wheel as it bounced around.

My first thought is the Ackermann steering geometry if it's happening at slow speeds.
