Looking at a friends mums Fiat Punto this morning as the heater fan has stopped working.

Do all my little testing and confirm the fan unit itself has packed up.

Get a price from Fiat of £120 + vat ish but they can't get me one until tomorrow as they only do 1 delivery a day.

Check our factors, they can't do one from the aftermarket.

Have a quick google of the Denso part number and discover the fan is exactly the same unit as in the Corsa D.

Vauxhall can get me one today (they had 5 on the shelf) but, it is £220 plus vat !

So if you need a new fan for your Corsa D, get it from Fiat as it is £100 cheaper biggrin

ETA; Denso 164330100 (hopefully this gets pickede up on Google now!)

Good work! I was recently shocked by VW parts prices, and I mean things so ubiquitous like nuts and bolts which no doubt have been shared by 20 models over the years: it cost me £170 to replace all of the suspension fastenings on a Mk4 Golf. Obscene.

It's shocking, isn't it. The gutter trim on the old E46 is falling apart. BMW want about £120 a side to replace it in parts alone.

I went to a local scrappy and got both sides in good nick for £6 and a pack of new clips for £4 from Fleabay.

So if you own a BMW, go to a scrap yard! wink

They are both based on the Fiat/Gm "Small common components systems" platfrom, you'll find they share a lot of parts biggrin

Handy to know smile

TBH I was expecting the Vauxhall part to be cheaper, Fiat bits always seem a bit OTT.

It's funny like that sometimes, e.g. Jag discs and pads being cheaper than Ford (same fit, not sure if identical).
But something like a fan I'd get from a breakers, probably for about £20.

All depends on the part you're after, I got a new Denso heater motor for my mates Corsa D on Fleabay earlier this year, arrived within 48hrs and cost under £50 all in.
Also got him a oil pressure switch a month or so later which was needed ASAP as the car was undriveable. Local vauxhall dealer had plenty in stock as it's a common fault, less than a Tenner!
Both parts took minutes to change.

So even the £100.00 cheaper Fiat supplied part is getting them a massive markup on what they pay for the part.

To be fair, I've been pleasantly surprised by part prices for my current Honda. But it is 14 years old, and shares many parts with other cars, so this is probably a large factor.

Focus ST170 waterpump - £40
Focus RS waterpump - £300

Most of the parts are buttons, anything shared is generally cheap. A coilpack was circa £35 for example.

Anything specific to the RS is ridiculous though.

Honda parts for my Integra are eye watering, great when your 15 year old car is starting to creak around the suspension bushes and few bits need refreshing.....whimper.

I assume you have checked the motor brushes before replacng the whole assembly? Odds are they are worn out and can generally be replaced for under £10. Easy DIY job.

You do realise they are 2 totaly differant engines ?
now if you compaired the RS to a volvo pump it would make sense, RS = volvo 5 cyl engine wink

Depends if he's talking about the MK1 or MK2 RS. I presume MK1 if comparing to the ST170, in which case the bottom end of the engine is similar, as the ST170's Duratec is based on the 2.0 Zetec. No idea if it's the same waterpump though!

Different waterpump but similar.

I totally understand the limited production numbers increasing parts prices but it doesnt make the kick in the nuts any softer!
