Whilst trying to figure out exactly how fast my Seiko 5 was running I stumbled across this Android app called Wild Spectra which uses the phone's mic to listen to the "tick" of a mechanical watch and some signal processing to figure out the beat rate.

I had to play around with it a bit and use it in a very (very) quiet room for it to work but it did tell me that my watch was running 44-45s/day fast which is around what I estimated. I've not tried it on a tablet but people say it should work on those too.

It's a long way from a proper timing machine but it's free, seems accurate and quite interesting to play with.

Coincidently, I got my Seiko V out of the drawer today for the 1st time since March and it's gained 45 minutes already since this morning.
I now remember why I chucked it away among the socks & pants!!
I'll try that Ap just for fun.
Any ideas how to slow 'er down?
Simon.

I'm not an Apple user but I hear there is something called Kello which is similar.
