From the pics on the BBC article it looks like the arctic that went through the barrier came through from the wrong side of the road? Also yeah I was pretty shocked/relieved to see that Golf and then read that someone had survived!

Looking at the final picture on that link, it looks like the car has been pushed under the lorry by the second lorry with blue cab. Amazing that someone has survived that. It looks like you would lose your head as you went under. Wow. Not that it matters but that doesnt look like a VW logo on those wheels which the article suggests. Toyota?

More than that:

Police said:
"She is not believed to be in a life-threatening condition," a spokesman said."
She should ask someone to nip out and get a lottery ticket for her.

wow, you wouldn't want to bet on surviving that!

I'm amazed at how many people i see closely following large lorries, often with another large lorry directly behind them. It seems their imagination maybe isn't as vivid as mine, but perhaps showing them that ^^^ pic might do the trick in future......

Specs monitored road works generally being the worst examples I see, lorries normally to blame.

Looks like what used to be an insignia ?

Hopefully the BBC haven't got their pics mixed up, looking at that I would expect some rather serious head injuries =(

Lorries cross into the other carriageway on the M25

Now I along with 1000's of others put up with 2 years of road works on this section of the M25 Part of this work involved the centre barrier section being dug up, filled with concrete, and a supposedly inpenetrable concrete crash barrier put up between the two carriage ways. Yet it appears to have failed it's first test. Whilst stuck in the numerous jams that occured whilst this was being done, I passed the time watching this being built. And as far as I could ascertain, the middle road sectione was filled with concrete to ground level, and then a concrete wall built on top. As as anyone whose been involved with the construction of concrete structures will tell you, wet new concrete doesn't 'stick' to dry concrete it's placed on. So why, if this barrier was required to be inpenetrable, wasn's it cast as one piece, and include steel reinforcing. From the pictures, it looks as if it was pushed aside with comparative ease. A failure.

"Essex Police initially announced that someone had died, but later said a woman was cut free from her vehicle and taken to hospital."

Give the fire and ambulance crews that attended this a medal/pay rise/OBE/knighthood etc. clap

Its the two tensioned steel cables cast inside the wall that are supposed to stop vehicles from crossing the centre. But yes, it appears that they failed to stop an Artic.

I remember coming up behind a lorry without crash guards (was many years ago) and realising the end of the naked steel beam supporting the bed would be just right position to hit my head.

Now being a tall person driving tall soft-roader style car - I can't help thinking I'd been much worse off in that situation.

Odd that there are so many vehicles involved given it happened at 2am, was it foggy at the time?

Calm down, they're only doing the job they were trained to do.

I wasn't seriously suggesting they be knighted. They did a good job, what's the problem?

More than one source has suggested the M25 carnage was caused by a car entering lane 1 direct from the hard shoulder without building up speed into the path of trucks in lane 1 & 2, one swerved to avoid, hitting the other and 1 or both crashing through the central divide.

I heard on the radio that the section around the M11 was closed. I drove through this on Sunday night to the airport and was somewhat surprised that for quite a few miles there was actually no central reservation in place. Just pillars where the barrier is to be mounted and a pile of broken concrete in the middle.
