Electronic handbrake? Transmission tunnel the height of the chinese wall?

This is what its all about. Hydraulic steering, Proper handbrake, chubby manual gearlever, coupla buckets and just you and the car.... The newest cayman and boxster look like small Panameras for gods sake!

Thing is though, even those buckets in the OP are heavy things with airbags added, less said about the colour! How about this for focussing on the job;

Yessssss. I thought it only me. What happened to the interiors of modern Porsche, and who decided that we no longer require a traditional handbrake?
You know where you stand with a traditional handbrake.

And...they're off.

How many pages can this run to, arguing the advantages a normal handbrake adds to the driving experience?

Rally drivers and car park doughnut merchants need not apply smile

I am in the CR top pic. camp hate the new Audi interiors! According to my opc that's what the new customers want though!

My 987 interior is pretty bland. I thought about updating it but don't see any inspiration in either the special models like the R or the newer 981 so just live with it. Quality is also poor, some of the trim you only have to sneeze on and it scratches.

I read once some advice, I think it was from Ari Vatanen (sp?) speaking about the driver training courses he ran, that an emergency stop can be 25% shorter if the handbrake is used as well. Luckily I had the presence of mind to do this when I needed to and avoided rear-ending someone. That was in a pre-ABS car though (Opel Manta GT/E), but I think the point was that if you use the handbrake shoes as well as the pads on the discs you're able to apply more braking force. Electronic handbrakes prevent this.

I agree, massive Transmission tunnels in rear wheel drive cars !!! what is that about ?
The more I read and see the more I feel like canceling my GT4 !!!

As my GF said on another thread, they are all blending into Audi mode as are the new bread of owners !
It gets to a point you may as well buy an Audi and save a few esp on the Macan models.

I would even take the new MK3 TTRS over a base model Cayman for £45k

Tend to agree that the new interiors are a bit "grand touring" versus sports focused but comes in handy for road trips to and from the epic twisty's, the lack of manual handbrake really sucks though. Folks can choose spec interiors to provide some sense occasion but choose not to, I remember I was lambasted (on PH) for specifying an orange interior due to the apocalyptic effect on future resale values. Zzz...

I don't think this can go on that long - I doubt that anyone likes the electronic "hand"brake. It reminds me of a road test of another car saying
that a particular switch was ideally suited to someone with a 9" limb growing out of their kneecap. It's pretty redundant on a PDK (fortunately) but I would find it a real pain on a manual. Even if it remains electronic it would be far better off on the (no)transmission tunnel.

Whilst I agree with the general comments about the electronic handbrake, when driving a recent manual 981 courtesy car I was relieved to find out that it disengages automatically when bringing the clutch up slowly, so you don't have to feel around under the dash mid hill-start!

By the time I handed the car back I still hadn't got the hang of the handbrake toggle switch though; pushing when I should have pulled, pulling when I should have pushed... bloody irritating! hehe

yes Me too. Always liked the two-tone orange/grey combo on the conifgurator but not actually seen it for real. Looks great IMO.

I live out in the sticks and when we get snow, I drive with my left hand on the hand brake ready to 'assist' the rear of the car through bends. You can't do that with your e-brake!

Did you know that if you press and hold the electronic handbrake switch then "Emergency Braking" is activated?

Was instructed to do it at 90mph with no hands on the wheel at the PEC Silverstone in a 991 turbo.

Was amazed to find out this applies to all P cars with electronic handbrake, tried it on my Cayman and it works - full emergency stop with no skidding. Remarkable really.

Just have to remember to press it when that kid runs out in front of you!

Exactly, you get more points for style if you plough into them with the rear wheels locked up.
