Very shed Passat estate

This is my £500 Passat 1.9 tdi estate, nothing special but comfy and economical, its done over 200K miles and there isn't a straight panel on it. I have a small list - tires, wing mirror, door lock and it doesn't get up to temperature properly, I think the thermostat is stuck open. It should do nicely for the winter whilst I sort some other things in life then it's time to start saving for something a bit more PH worthy!
Ironic, I'm just browsing the classifieds for a £500 estate shed myself. Contenders so far being a Fabia Estate 1.4, an S40 1.6 or (not so sensible) £450 Omega V6.
The V6 doesn't tick the economical box though and I haven't seen any diesels that tickle my fancy. This looks ideal though, hope you have a relatively cheap trouble free ownership.

The best bet seems to be looking at local high milers and finding one that has seen some maintenance and suspension parts replaced. I would like something more interesting but this is perfect for what I need at the moment and will provide good motivation to get saving!

As a local I have never heard it called Black rock before it's real name is Widemouth bay 
I never go to the local restaurants but I think Elements is just over the hill in the 2nd picture 
Great cars these, my brother had one with the same engine and only sold it at 260,000 to buy a 2003 Audi S4! He had his chipped and it certainly felt quick enough. He religiously changed the oil and filters and the worst thing that it needed was the steering rack and wish bones (think there are 8 on these?). Great shed!
That is good going! My mum has an a4 with 220k and a friend has an a4 (both p reg) with over 300k they are both 110bhp though, mine is only 90bhp. It has had new wishbones but something has given up since posting this, a judder under harsh breaking, glad I can use a spanner...
An S4 would be a very nice alternative!

If it's the 8v (68bhp), it's a very reliable engine, but a bit gutless. Not the worst thing in the world though, would do the job.
The 16v 100bhp engine is much better, get that if you can! The fabia was really reliable and easy to work on anyway.
I now have an octavia hatch with the same 1.9tdi engine (110bhp) as the passat in this thread, pulls really nicely - I'd recommend any of the VAG cars with this engine. The difference in torque makes the thing so much more drivable, especially if you're going to have big loads. I wanted an estate, but the hatch was the best deal I could find that seemed to be in good nick. Would have loved a passat really, but the skoda was better on insurance.
There's a lot to be said for cheap shed cars! I love mine!

I have had a 1.4 engine in a 99 Golf and a 2000 Polo and they were both terrible! The 100bhp is supposed to be better though. I've just bought a 2004 version for more money than that but it is the mk5.5 with half the miles. Blooming bombproof cars. Last of the cars from the generation where you can fix it yourself. I love it because I can use it for taking stuff to the dump, going kayaking (takes 4 boats on the roof, with all the gear and guys in the back) and it doesn't matter if its dirty.
