How to find a good ankle surgeon?

I've been suffering from some ankle issues ever since I broke it almost 8 years ago, and have had a number of MRI scans and several operations to try and improve it. None have really helped, but it wasn't until I had a 3-D dynamic scan done recently that I discovered what was causing some of the issues - namely some bone fragments inside the joint, and a couple of bone spurs that have formed.

I was referred for this scan by a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon who is not able to perform the surgery, but a couple of his recommendations are surgeons I have used before, so I'd like to try someone else next time.

So really I'm after the best possible ankle surgeon to try and fix me for the last time, otherwise I'll need to consider an ankle fusion which I'm not that keen on.

Can anyone please recommend anyone (ideally in London) who will spend more than a few minutes investigating my ankle issues, and do more than quickly glance at a scan before suggesting surgery that doesn't work?

Closest I can think of is PRof. Tim Briggs who looked after my knee earlier this year at Spire Bushey and Harpenden (BUPA) hospitals. A first-class guy and whilst he might not be able to help with your ankle I'm sure he'd at least be able to recommend someone to you.

Thanks. I did see James about a year ago, but he didn't really spend much time with me and his suggested treatment (steroid injection) didn't make any difference. I was quite disappointed - especially given his reputation and price.

I'm trying to find someone who spends their time trying to help me instead of telling me about how many professional sportsmen they have treated, which is what I've found with some of these top-rated surgeons.
