What car from an RX8?
Discussion
Afternoon all! (just)
Recently bought an rx8 as i crashed my previous one after four days. Glad i bought it as its made me smile and its a great car in my eyes, only downside is of course the MPG.
Im currently doing around 50 miles a day and i cant really justify the RX8 costing me about £20 a day to do those miles!
So im after a change of vehicle.
Requirements.
Less than 3k - closer to 2k if possible
better mpg than the rx8 (not difficult) was hoping more around 30
Preferabley RWD as im just getting used to it and enjoying it
Still enough 'pace' to not get bored and motorway journeys to be a chore
Previously owned 2 alfas, Toyota mr2, Rx8, e39 520, Seat ibiza Cupra.
Thanks in advance

E36 328.
I would see that and, for the budget, raise it to an E46 330i.I had a similar dilemma and considered an RX-8 myself, but I don't for a second doubt my decision in buying an E46 328i two and a half years ago. My ownership average over 20,000 miles is 30.2mpg, which is a decent blend of town driving, hammering it down B-roads (which it loves), and long motorway runs. The worst tank has been 24mpg, the best 36mpg.
There's a thread on my car here, and I really do think they're untouchable all-rounders at this sort of money. If you can find a nice 330i for your budget, so much the better, you gain another 40bhp in a slightly newer car that's even better on fuel. Specifically for your requirements, it's a supremely comfortable cruiser that sits most naturally at 85-90mph and still has significant overtaking shove at those speeds. It's a nice tractable engine, bags of torque and a revelation next to the RX-8 (my housemate has one, so I know this!).
I keep toying with replacing it, but I can't find anything under £5k that does half so many things half as well!

The obvious answer is a 3 series, because they're very quiet on the motorway and handle commuting brilliantly, but still have great handling and of course the same FE/RWD layout as your RX8. The problem is that the depreciation is very different to the RX8 and with a limited budget you'll be looking at an old one. I can't think of any other suggestions to be honest if you want to stay RWD and have a reasonably long commute with motorway involved.

So less than 14mpg?!? Would be cheaper to run an old BMW M5...Not economical driving style i may add, but still poor!
