Hello!!

Does anyone know the step by step process of a cat c claim in which when the driver decides to keep the car to repair using aviva insurance.

After aviva has advised the amount payable and you verbally agree...

When is the V5 handed in?
Who requests the V5, aviva or DVLA?
When are the funds paid?

Etc etc

Thanks smile

Well in that case you keep the V5, CAT C will require a VIC check.
You'd need to arrange that with the DVLA (or VOSA not really sure which one if I'm honest)
When the funds will be paid is completely up to the insurer, probably once they've completed their indemnity checks.

Usually the figure they agree to pay you is minus the XS and the Salvage value of the car.

THanks for this smile

I've also just read another site and it says the insurer needs the V5 to be given to the DVLA to mark it as a cat c and they will not give the V5 back until the vic has been done.

So now I am bit stumped. Here is the link I found http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/sm/vehicle-identity-che...

The Insurer will record the car as a CAT C on MIAFTR2, with the regards to getting the DVLA to record it as CAT C I'm unsure.
The record of it goes under special notes on the front page of the V5 so I imagine the DVLA will need you to send it to them so they can issue the replacement with it noted, no need to send it to the insurer.
