Looking forward to reading this when I get home....my subscription copy just landed in my postbox today....bloody bank holidays!!

Loved Simonspider's Murci at VMAX but sadly missed out on a ride but looking forward to reading about it in the supercar group test.

Happy New Year to everyone as well as it's my first post since the New Year.

The front cover Murcie isn't Simons. It's an e-gear car.

Simon's Murcie is in the fast-fleet feature, where they take all the cars to France.

Great mag...

Yea that was a lot of fun that French bash - they are all mad those Evo lot. Only a couple of them liked the Tubi though, rest said it was way too loud. I am supposed to have said I was'nt sure about it too (so it is written)but I F*****g love it! The 550 Maranello was a fab car, I can see why people love them so much, never been a fan up to now. There's a lot of Murci's in this months mag but as Rico says mines only in the group test and on the contents page..

Good issue.

I loved Peter Tomalin's comment that 'even Simon is unsure about the Tubi'

It sounds like none of them liked it for some reason. I think it sounds awesome.

I noticed that the 340R was missing from the fleet. Any news on this Simon or was it just because Harry Metcalf already had 2 of his cars there?

Agreed - excellent articles in EVO this month.

Simon - have you tried a (newer) 2WD Lambo, yet?

Also - v pleased to see someone racking the miles a Lambo - it takes 10,000 miles just to loosen up - for gods sake!

Simon made a note about this on FChat; he was *asked* to put that bit in, but actually loves it (as he should, it's simply essential since the car sounds pretty weedy without). I recall that EVO used to make the same comments about the Tubi on David Yu's 355.

Yep true, I did'nt say 'I was'nt sure about it' as printed, I think Peter remembered me making a comment about it when its cold, as I said it was very raucous - which it is! In fact its not a nice sound when cold but when warm completly alters to a lovely smooth deep note.
Anjum - what 2wd Lambo is that then? Are you talking about the new Murci with 700bhp? I would love to have a blast when that arrives. My Murci's in at Lamborghini for the 7500 mile service on Monday. I think with the Le Mans trip followed by a trip to the factory after and the normal miles I do it'll be at 20,000 by the end of this year. Ah well

Has anyone else noticed the angle the Ferrari appears to be assuming in one of the cornering shots?

It's absolutely bloody ridiculous and I'm wondering whether it's genuine or not?

Given the proximity of the road edge's border hazards, whoever's driving seems to be taking monumental risks with what is probably someone else's car.

Barker & Co must be truly phenomenal wheelmen to ply such a nonchalant, smokifluous trade.

(Someone else's copy of the mag, naturally; I'm a subscriber so whaddya expect, ruddy barstads!)

Spot on, I thought exactly the same when I saw the picture...I think it's Meaden driving. That truly is sideways stuff. :hatsoff:

Mind you, he has got a drift car now, so I presume he's been practicing.

edited to say: schoolboy error - having read the article in full last night I now know that Meaden was of course nowhere near the car.

Simon, what are they really like?

I ask because they tripped over themselves so violently in eCOTY with the Maser GranSport. Barker obviously loved it, then two months later Meaden more or less trashed it. Confusing!

Meaden will have seen it through the eyes of a racer (which he is), and Barker's thoughts seemed more biased towards road car values.

Presumably eCOTY is entirely democratic, with each driver's scorecard being given equal value, but you still have to wonder how they can suddenly contradict themselves.

I think you answered the question yourself cos I noticed that chatting to them all they have firm opinions on what cars they rate and which they don't. Dickie Meaden does'nt say much and is a superb driver - he had the arse of the Murcie out within minutes of getting into it in France. I did'nt meet John Barker cos he could'nt make France but the rest of them are a real laugh, and it says a lot that even when all pissed the subject never got off cars! Its the history that interested me - a few used to work on Fast Lane & Performance Car in fact Brett Fraser was the Editor of the last one (yellow Elise S1), and they all know Clarkson and the others.

Thanks Simon, and no Andrew, I wish I was always right but I seldom am !!

I'm looking forward to the GS, and promise you I will tell it like it is, warts and all. I like to 'learn' a car, so maybe this will be a stimulant of some sort...
