Bright Brake Lights
Discussion
All you people complaining of brake lights when at traffic lights etc.
First off, give it a rest please?
Every 3rd topic, it seems, has something complaining about them posted in it.
Don't suppose people are driving autos?
Bought so you don't have to change gear, your not gonna put it in park every 12 seconds in stop start traffic.
I'm in the states at the moment and at every set of lights its a queue of people with brake lights on - all autos I would imagine. However the American population doesn't seem to all be blind?
Therefor I must conclude PHers must be either:
A. Moles or something who don't see light often.
or
B. Moaning old gits
Rant over.

You've also missed the point, it's not people sitting with their brake lights on in general, it's modern cars with incredibly bright brake lights.
Surely that's a good thing, no?I followed an older (well 90s!) car a few weeks back, think it may have been an early E36, whose brakelights were barely brighter than the tail lights and no high level brake light either.
Can't say I've ever had a problem with my eyes melting when I've been in traffic. Oh, and for what it's worth, I leave my auto in drive in stop/start traffic (unless I can see I'll be stopped for ages, then I'll switch it off!).

To a point, yes. I've only thought "those are far too bright" once, when it was very dark, and the car in front had searingly bright LED brakelights. Not a big deal, though I imagine if every car was fitted with the same brakelights, it would get quite irritating at night.I followed an older (well 90s!) car a few weeks back, think it may have been an early E36, whose brakelights were barely brighter than the tail lights and no high level brake light either.

Just to post something constructive here, I'd like manufacturers to consider a lower brightness level for very small brake inputs, such as used when people are holding an automatic stationary. It would solve this issue immediately, and also draw more attention to when a driver goes from a slight dab of brakes on the motorway to a proper stop - which causes a lot of accidents whe people don't spot this difference.
By the way, drivers of manual cars don't sit in first gear with the clutch down and the brake on in traffic - why's it so hard for drivers of automatics to pop their car into neutral whilst stationary? Just saying...

You know what I do when there is a blinding glare in front of me in stationary traffic? I don't look directly at it. I don't need to be staring at the back of a car that is stopped. When the blinding glare stops it's time to look forwards again.
Staring at something you find visually painful is something you do to yourself. You can't blame the thing.

I've been a passenger in more than one car where the driver has done just that. RobM77 said:

Did Jaguar not have this feature on a concept car quite a few years back? BMW have a similar feature; http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/tech...

It wouldn't surprise me if this is a feature on many cars, it's an obvious thing to do.Slidingpillar said:

No, but I put it in Neutral. Slow said:

Because I can't be arsed. Despite what I read on here I'm not changing my behaviour. I f I won't, then the average joe is not likely to even consider it. Just get over it.
