Every year my parents look after our kids for a fortnight, allowing the wife and I to go on holiday on our own. They’ve offered again this year – fantastic, as far as I’m concerned!

The problem is we’re running out of places to go. A further dilemma is that I like ‘activity’ type holiday while the wife likes lazing in the sun by the pool (or sea). Last year we went to Hawaii, whereby I was scampering up volcanoes and going on helicopter rides – while the wife relaxed at the hotel. The year before we went to the Rockies in Western Canada. Anyhow, we need to book it soon because the parents have offered to have the kids the middle two weeks in August, and holidays tend to get booked up pretty quick at that time of year.

So, I need advice from the PH massive as to where to go in the world which keeps the wife happy while also allowing me to burn off excess energy.

Have you/would you consider diving? I took it up because the other half and I were the same as you (only she fell in love with it too so we both do it now!).

But, you can go off on dives during the day whilst your wife lazes by the pool. Also, if you do like it - it will open up all number of holiday destinations in the future.

I can only speak for Egypt and the Great Barrier Reef as dive desinations - but they are both great (GBR probably being too far for a two-weeker though!). Sharm al Sheik (sp?) is where we went in Egypt and it was very nice.

There are many other destinations though.

Cheers,
Phil.

Thaks Phil, I'd really love to be able to do diving but I've got a perforated ear-drum and any amount of water pressure causes me serious pain!

Reykjavik.

Leave her in the Blue Lagoon (hot springs), while you go playing on snow mobiles, huge 4x4's over glaciers and dog sledding…

How about going to Panaitan Island? (Off the north tip of Java) It's right by Krakatoa and has beautiful beaches, a peak to climb and wildlife to the maximum (national park). Take a machete and a surfboard.

That's where I want to go.

Fly to Bali, then to Jakarta then to the SW tip and get a fishing boat out there. Guaranteed, 170% awesome.

El Gouna is nicer than Sharm-el-Shake. Man-made lagoons, plenty of bars/restaurants, harbour, 2 beaches, posh and cheap hotels, kite-surfing, surfing...

And if you go with a local, off road driving to avoid the checkpoint

Bali's in the Indian Ocean isn't it? I noticed you said good surfing! Might have a little trouble persuading the wife.

Why not come and look after my kids for two weeks, as me and Mrs Liszt, can leave at a moments notice and work out a destination en route.

I wish I had other peoples problems sometimes.

What about Brazil. Copacabana beach, widlife safaris in the pantanal and the amazing waterfalls at Foz Do Iguasu.

Also could go over the border to Bolivia to lake Titicaca, the options are endless over there.

diddyman, where are all those taken? I'm guessing they are promotion shots not your own?

It escaped completely apparently, completely sheltered by the unfortunate islands that are now all over the news.
Got to agree with South Africa too, fantastic

I took them all except the last one.
The first is Taha'a in French Polyfilla
Second is Palau in Micronesia
Third is the Galapagos
Fourth is Fiji
Fifth is Taha'a again in FP. The hotel was Photoshopped onto the island!

This was our room:

or you could have a beach suite with your own punge pool!

Steve - I would seriously consider Ecaudor & the Galapagos Islands - fabulous location and needs to be seen sooner rather than later. Also, they use the USD, so it is much cheaper than some other countries in S America. There is also heaps to do on the mainland such as the Amazon, volcanos, great market towns, the Andes etc etc
