A little help please Gents. A chum of mine took these snaps of the moon and noticed a ghostly green mirror image appearing just above it - he's asked me what it might be but to be honest I am not sure. Any ideas please?

TIA smile

That looks like some sort of reflection within the lens. Any filters attached at the time at all ?

Gents - thanks for the replies. He shot it with the kit lens with a UV filter attached.

I know what flare is but this looked a bit different to what I would normally think of as flare. Reckon the filter could cause it? I have shot the moon loads of times and not had anything like this...

Certainly a ref;ection of some sort - start by shooting sans filter and go from there I reckon....

Filter.

Draw vertical and horizontal lines through the middle of the image and see what they suggest about positioning.

I imagine that if the light is not coming straight in to the middle of the lens then the light will more likely reflect. So if you draw a line down the middle that is the axis of reflection?
LongQ?

ps. I didn't mean to suggest that you wouldn't know what flare was in my earlier post.

Reflection about the centre point.

Make the bright poiint central when taking the shot and the reflection will most likely not be obvious.

However, if the unwanted patch does not appear equidistant (more or less) from the centre point compared to the light source there may be other things going on. Still the effect of filter reflection but perhaps form some other source. This would be more typical of, say, flare from the sun shooting against the light on a bright day.
