Due to be driving a 01 1.6 petrol auto focus from London to Inverness on Sunday.

I'm away till the morning I'm due to drive home so cant have a look at it.
Just been told by my dad who has given me it, that it looses power on hills randomly, only when cruising on the motorway, never around town. He drove it from Edinburgh to London and noticed it was alot worse when raining?

From what I know of the car its done about 55k miles and was owned by my Nan and serviced regularly, had anything it needed doing straight away at a ford garage.

Any clues as to what it is?

Sounds like it may be the torque converter on the way out. Does it rev but not seem to gain speed?

if it does it when raining the usuall problem is water getting into the cam vally and shorting the plugs out but this usually brings the managment light up?

I asked, he said the check engine light comes on, has to restart the car and it goes.
