Hi all

As a young lad, I spent many afternoons down at my late Grandad's garage. One little "toy" I had was this instrument gauge. Odd the things which make you smile when you're young!

I was helping my mother clear out some old crap recently and this little memory appeared. I am now curious to find out what the heck the gauges were from. I'm guessing something Japanese and probably 80s..... but hoping someone here will recognise them?

I'm pretty sure the top one is a fuel gauge.

The bottom one was obviously removed as it was clearly marked temporary....

Thanks Jooks - looks like Metro clocks.

Interestingly my searches for those cars turned up some very wacky 80s dashboards

Google of mid-80s metros leads me to believe it is almost certainly from those.

Japanese (or some asian) writing definitely threw me.

One is pointing at the fuel icon the other is missing a dial. They MIGHT be from a car ...

Metro, I had a GTA as my first car. Oh how I remember that gauge constantly pointing to 'E' on my apprentice wages.

Agree with the Rover comments but think they went into a few others too, fairway taxis spring to mind and possibly LDV vans and Range Rovers too.

I always liked the Austin 1300 dash, with the horizontal speedo.

No. Different as the Metro has lights and a different needle arrangement.

Just about any BL product from late 80`s to early 90`s and some Hondas.
I bet one or possibly both of those 2 gauges stopped working, many failed.

Definitely from a Metro! Although I believe found on the dashboard of the high-spec non MG variants. The sporty ones had a different dashboard. I'm going to guess the 'AR' bit of the code in the original image means 'Austin Rover'. The Japanese characters make sense as they were sharing loads of bits with Honda in those days. Possibly Nippon Denso components?
