Rolling Road Offer

TVR specialists Motorvation Motorsport in Dorking, Surrey will be running a special offer next month. Throughout August they'll be doing basic services on Griffiths, Chimaeras and S Series cars for just £200. Uniquely though, they have a rolling road within their premises too and they'll throw in a rolling road tuning session as part of the deal.

Motorvation Motorsport are based on the A24 just to the south west of London and about ten minutes away from the M25. Probably worth a phone call if you think your pride and joy isn't in a tip-top state of tune.

Anyone used these guys and have any positve/negative comments? Mine needs a RR tune, I might get an interim service done too (4,000 miles since last service).

Thanks.

They were very helpful in reply to emails I sent them, although the RR isn't powerfull enough for my Cerbera though they are getting an upgrade soon, which is nice

I used to live very near where they are located. Very small premises. I think they are ex-Redhill guys (following MV take over). Drove past once in my chimp, they all had a good look at me. Didnt see any TVRs on the premises though. I am in Dorking this Sat and will drive past in my cerbera to take a peek.

So has anyone out there any experience of Motorvation? I them last week about getting my lumpy 450 looked at. The guy was very helpful and a few diagnostic Qs but said I should bring it in for them to take a listen/look before giving me a quote. But re the August offer: 200 notes for a quick service and a road tune up sounds like a reasonable deal if the quality is assured. Anyone?

I thought the ex Redhill chaps became Raven Automotive in Crawley. Motorvation were around before the demise of R/H (i think).

They also some some pretty nifty chips for Chimps and Griffs to extract a better bhp and smoother power flow.

I have heard good reports on them, and the work they did for me in '98 on Chimp was first rate.

OH, yeah ... I was there last Thursday. Motorvation did an excellent job and a very reasonable price (I think they charge 60 pounds per hour for work on 'the road'). My car is running much smoother now and more responsively now. A few minor problems were identified and sorted out.

I haven't given it full bore since the tune up - it's in at Thames Valley Racetech for new diff bearings today. Can't wait to get it back now.

T/.

P.S. Interestingly - I knew my temp gauge underread - when it was reading 85deg the actual temp data from the sender said 98 deg (their diganostic equipment read this). So the gauges are way out as suspected.

Trefor,

Sounds like my 450 has the same sort of problem as yours. I suspect I will be getting mine into TVRacetech to get the diff or the drive shaft sorted. I am hoping the RR test will get it tuned up etc but they will also identify the nasty noise coming from underneath the rear as I pull away in 1st, or reverse slowly.

Getting my Chim looked at today, also a few other jobs done... Will let you guy's/gals how it went and how they compare on prices...

First opinion was good, got advice about the hissing I have when firing the motor up... apparently it's a good idea not to tighten the petrol cap fully...

More to follow...

Oh, also experienced my first drive alongside another Chimaera last weekend on my way back to Cheltenham.... the sound...

Just to confirm Motorvation were the people being used in my Guess the bill sweepstake thread. I think it is clear from the figures posted in that thread that they did a good value job for a fair price. I will admit that when I was on my way home one of the faults it had gone in for was still there and I had a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.

However after a quick call this morning they said get it over as soon as it's convenient and we'll sort it as soon as you get here. They had replaced the ignition module yesterday and the "coughing" fault had cleared for them but the connectors were corroded and needed a good clean out hence the same fault had showed for me on the way home (only apparent when making progress) This morning they sorted it very quickly and FOC and it's good as gold now, I also ended up with a freebie fan belt as a spare just as a gesture. I know the fan belt is probably about £4 and it cost me more in petrol to get back to them today but it all helps. All I can say is no company gets it 100% right first time every time and it's unfair to judge any company on it's mistakes what is fair is to judge them by the way they put them right. I believe this and practise it in my own business where cock ups get priority over everything else. I would not hesitate to recommend them for TVR work, they know what they're doing and charge a fair price for it. They are a company that looks set to only improve and get bigger in the TVR world, and are a stamp I'm happy to have on a service record as a "specialist".

Can I ask a numpty question? I get my Chimaera serviced on the dot when required, so do you think it would be worth my while getting these lot to have a look at mine on the rolling road? How would I know (as an ignoramus on mechanics) that I may need to have it checked?

Cheers folks

David.

Give them a call. A quick session on the road may reveal your car is well serviced but there may be room for a bit of tweaking to squeeze the best out of the engine. Could be a cheap performance enhancement or cheap peace of mind.

I had my S on a rolling road last year thinking it was probably well tired and down on power. I was very pleased to find that it was almost on the dot. A massive one hundred and sixty something BHP

Dear Loudpedal

Sorry to hear that you feel you prehaps did not get the best value for money at Motorvation Motorsport in Dorking. Unfortunatley I have no records of servicing your Chimaera. Please could you email me or post with more information, I am not very happy to hear that a customer has an issue with us, and would be very happy to talk to you about this issue and put it right for the future.
