Well the R8 is up for sale in the classifieds, an unnerving feeling placing the advert, maybe a sign that I shouldn't do it!

I did post a thread stating that I was going to replace it with a C63 AMG however due to a new work posting the commute would be too long and expensive to justify it, which is the reason for sale of the R8, plus I think I'd rather have an R8 when I seriously looked at the AMG.

As an alternative I've gone full circle and on the completion of sale I'll be buying a TDV8 Range Rover Sport, probably around the 09/59 plate and HSE spec so early 20,000s I reckon.

I currently get 15mpg odd in the R8 and book the RRS gets 26 odd plus for a long commute its as comfortable as you can get, plus has every toy going.

I've done the necessary research online but if anyone has had any experience with the RRS and can pass on any advice it would be appreciated as always.

If you're currently getting 15 in the R8, I wouldn't expect any more from the RRS. The R8 can do high 20s on a run.

All I've been doing is short trips around town so to speak hence the low mpg.

+1 ^^ a RRS TDV8 is going to be no better in economy than a manual R8

In that case, your R8 will manage mid 20s on your new commute. wink

Why not keep the R8 for weekend toy and buy a diesal runaround.

Having done the commute a few times now, I feel that a big comfy barge with all the refinements that a RRS has would be ideal...auto box, all the toys, just sit back and relax, plus IMO it looks the part.

In the R8 being stuck in traffic for extended periods isn't a good place to be as we all know.

Something less 'sporty' that is built for luxurious relaxing is what I'm after now, feel that I've got the sports saloon out of my system, for now anyway, once the GTS comes down in price I'll probably be back!

I've had a TDV8 out on the run I do and averaged 26, hitting 40mpg in parts, however, I'd not discount the TDV6 either if the right spec/price came up.

My VXR8 was one of the most comfortable motorway cars I've ever owned (exhaust noise aside!). Don't forget petrol is cheaper than diesel. wink

I know you will ignore all that and buy the Range Rover anyway.FFRRs are better if you're going to do it though. smile

Yep, go into this with your eyes open. A TDV8 will average 23 mpg (my TDV6 does 26mpg) and do not under estimate the cost of maintenance, they weigh 2.5 tonnes and eat brakes so you won't get change from £600-£800 when servicing. Great cars but don't get one because you think it will save money.

When I bought a house earlier this year I could no longer afford to spend £75 a week fuelling the Monaro. I couldn't bring myself to sell the old girl so I bought a diesel Meriva.
It costs me about £30 a week on fuel and I still get to enjoy the big V8 at the weekends.

I have to say though, I do miss cruising at motorway speeds doing less than 2k rpm.

I am commuting just over 90 miles per day in my VXR8; some time ago I had a coversion to LPG. The fuel cost is about £17 per day for me.
