de-tuned 211HP 981 Boxsters
Discussion
Just stumbled across this article...
Porsche are offering de-tuned 2.7L Boxster and Cayman in certain markets (Norway, Belgium)for circa 9% less than the regular 2.7 and presumably lower taxes/ownership costs...

Wonder if the final drive ratio is unchanged.

Oh dear. How would this be done, do you think? Restrictions on breathing or is it all mapping the fuel injection? Porsche are offering de-tuned 2.7L Boxster and Cayman in certain markets (Norway, Belgium)for circa 9% less than the regular 2.7 and presumably lower taxes/ownership costs...

A 211 BHP Boxster does not bear thinking about. It would be about as fast as a 320i in the "real World", which would be too slow even for people like me who think it is about quality rather than quantity!

It is tuned to 211HP, there are no other differences.
This for solely tax reasons.
Sure, but what does that mean? Either it revs to a lower limit (unlikely) or its torque has been reduced. I don't know how, in practice, Porsche would achieve that. I assume it is just a matter of tweaking the fuel injection. This for solely tax reasons.
As grip, brakes, electronic systems, etc have all improved, the sensation of speed has diminished, too.
It occurred to me the other day that my wife's 320i touring is much much faster than anything I drove until I was abouy 25, but it certainly doesn't feel like it! To be fair, I would probably put the BMW in a ditch with the kind of driving I did back then. 4 pot bores me s
tless, though, to the point where I only know the revs from the display.

the 211 bhp is just a software detune, in Norway its about 8000 Pounds ( 11-12% ) cheaper - and it can be remapped right back to the full 265 by any proficient porsche workshop.
In reality its more than 211, more like 230-240, its only for tax reasons.
Even the detuned version will do 0-62 in 6.3 seconds - its significantly quicker than a 320i...

Not much! In gear, it is probably very similar, regrettably. In reality its more than 211, more like 230-240, its only for tax reasons.

my brother has a F30 320i, doesnt go very well. The difference between a 6.2 and a 7.3 car to 62 mph is a big one.
1340 kiloes and 211 bhp vs 184 and 1500 kg.
Its a 180 BHP/ton car vs a 130 BHP/Ton one. Not even close.

I don't see a massive difference between 180 per ton and 130 per ton, to be honest, especially when the less powerful car has a very big torque advantage. The 320i is not a fast car. It is a fairly heavy car with a 4 pot engine. But it is not in a different league from a detuned Boxster in terms of straight line pace, which tells me that a detuned Boxster is too slow!1340 kiloes and 211 bhp vs 184 and 1500 kg.

What about the 0-100mph times? I bet there is about 2 seconds in it. Slow, slow slow
