Very strange car viewing experience today. What a loon.
Discussion
Due to doing a lot more miles and being a skint student my son sold his S3 to make the move to diesel power.
He has been looking at cars such as Ibiza cupra,Leon cupra or Fabia VRS.We went to view a Leon today at a dealers.
First guy we spoke to was friendly enough, handed the key over told us to feel free to start it up,just make sure it is in neutral and dont try to drive it unless he was there, fair enough.
We went over to it,it started well,no smoke, nicely cleaned inside etc,my son noticed it had electric folding mirrors and cruise control, nice extras on one of these at this age (04 plate).Looked promiing this one (we had seen some rough cars).
He turned it off to let it settle and popped the bonnet to check oil and water levels,at this time a Range Rover pulled up near the office and another guy got out,I walked over to ask to see the service book for the Leon just as the RR driving bloke came around the corner,he shouts over to my son 'here kid (my son is 25),dont be opening the bonnet, health and safety rules'
I says to him 'health and safety? he is just having a look'
Bloke starts marching over to the Leon and at the top of his voice starts ranting 'it is all health and bloody safety these days, there are hot and sharp things under the bonnets of cars and I could get sued if anything happened'.
My son pipes up 'do these rules stop you putting oil in the engine, there is not a drop showing on the dipstick' (It had been at least five minutes since it had run so it something should have drained back by now).
Bloke then grabs my sons arm
to move him to one side and slams the bonnet of the Leon, slams the door and says 'just leave it kid it is not for you this'
.
We both looked at each other speechless, went back to my car and drove off. What a f
king loon.
It was a shame as the car was OK so when we got home I rang the dealer to see if he had calmed down.He said to me and I quote "the oil settles in these newer cars when they have been stood,it is
not like the olden days is it"

I was starting to worry then as clearly this guy needed help,he was a nutcase.

Ye, sounds like a loon. 'Elf and safety my arse. They guy was just a mental bell end on a bit of a power trip by the sounds of it. Oh, and he shouldn't go grabbing people. Just asking for someone to take real offense and make a claim for assault.

Well, one thing's for sure. He was right when he said that car wasn't for you. He's just miffed at having been caught out.Bloke then grabs my sons arm

Tsk tsk tsk there's always one bad apple. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/local-...
I had a slightly less annoying experience with a dealership when buying my first BMW. Shady bunch of chaps in Peterborough. The BMW I went to look at had gained 4,000 between them listing it and me viewing the car... they said "oh it's just what came up when we book it in".... uh-huh. Similarly my Peugeot I chopped in lost 2,000 miles between me giving it to them and them listing it on their site.

I can sort of see where the dealer is coming from with the H&S concern.
People rarely seem to take any responsibility for their own actions these days and aided by the NWNF scum will happily sue a business for any misfortune that occurs to them.
I can see where you're coming from, but in that case open the bonnet for the customer and show them yourself. If he's laissez-faire enough to just toss the keys over with a 'fill yer boots, don't nick it' then he's probably not fussed about what you do with the car - apart from uncovering a dodgy bit he'd rather you not know about, of course.People rarely seem to take any responsibility for their own actions these days and aided by the NWNF scum will happily sue a business for any misfortune that occurs to them.

Considering the budget available it is not a bad car really,a far as the inpection went anyway.Lot of cat c&d/mega mile ones about.
I was looking at Fabia VRS' a while back and there was an awful lot of Cat'd ones of them too? Hardly the most likely car to write off you would think?randomeddy said:

I am inclined to accept that some carelessness and poor management is for the most part responsible for this type of offence, in the absence of clear evidence of actual dishonesty.
Yep just an honest mistake, of course it was.
