why does 100mph seem to be so bad?

weather, visibility and road conditions play a huge part in what I consider to be inappropriate speed.
As for types of driving behaviour....there is the obvious; tail gaiting, passing vehicles in the next lane, on sharp motorway bend, near to entrance/exit slip etc..
As for those i can't see....who knows...but the driver who does 100mph one day, just could be the driver who sits in the middle lane the next, or the one I sit behind with blues/headlights/sirens on...and they dont' see/hear me.

Because a sudden front tyre blowout at 140mph would be a LOT more dangerous than one at 90mph.......

Both would most likely end in a crash and are dangerous. Blowouts are rare since tubeless tyres. Not impossible, but rare.
Are we to stop the police driving at this speed in a persuit then in case of a blowout?

Less casualty per mile travelled.
We can debate this for ages, but the limits we have have been set a long time ago and have a remote link to absolute safety limits.
I would like someone against increasing today's limit to comment on the Autobahn example.....

I would rather have a blowout.(rare or not) at 90mph than 140mph, apart from the fact that if you were unlucky enough to be caught doing those kind of speeds, you would more likely than not go to Prison for six months, possibly lose your job, face large insurance premium rises in later years, is it REALLY worth it to save five or six minutes..........
Imo there is NO reason for anybody to want to exceed 90/100mph on a public road, if you REALLY want to go faster book a track day...........

To go there faster.
To spend less time on the road (Reducing your risks to a good degree also by spending less time on the road).
I cross Germany several times a year.
You save hours in this case with a higher average speed, not minutes.
Plus less chances to fall asleep (Cause of a large amount of accidents by the way....) than if you slug it out at 70 mph like a drone......

We are taking about England here,NOT Germany...
The maximum speed limit in England, (like it or not) is 70mph, so you don't need to be a genius to work out that IF you are caught doing 140 mph, you are exceeding the speed limit by 100%, and almost certainly will go to prison for a few months......At the very least you would receive a VERY heavy fine....
I would just point out that my last motorcycle was a Suzuki GSXR 1000, top speed in excess of 185mph, so I like speed as much as anybody, but not at the risk of my life OR licence, which has been clean and accident free for the past 35 years.....
