Hi,

I've got an issue with my Gulf-spec DBS, in that there's a very annoying continuous alarm that sounds when travelling between 120 - 130kmh - it's legal requirement in the UAE to sell the car with this alarm, as the official speed limit is 120kmh, however, the enforced speed limit is actually 140kmh, so you can have it disabled after purchase.

As expected Aston Martin will do this, but they have said they need to create a new 'Gulf Spec' program without the alarm for the cars computer, and overwrite the original. They want to charge me £300+ to do this!

Does anyone know if you're able to manipulate the computer using one of these iOBD2 Vehicle Diagnostic Scanners? I have one on order, so will have a play when I get it, but just wondered if anyone has any experience with this sort of thing, as I'm sure it's not that difficult, given the right tools.

Thanks,

Scott.

what you want can only be done via new config file from factory, not by scanner tool.

because you unlikely have any indie's capable of trick stuff where you are, you will have to go with the dealer.

the price stated is more or less cost of bespoke config file in uk, so in relative terms, although a lot of money for 'pressing the return key', that is the going rate

It doesn't sound that much, especially in tax free UAE. Just think of it as a subsidy for all the money you're saving on fuel. wink

Thanks for the replies gents!

As you say, not that much considering the savings on fuel etc. but still annoying that, as Mike pointed out, this is more than likely a one-line change in a config file, so I had to at least see if there was a way to do it that didn't involve the dealer!

I'm always happy to pay the dealer premium for all mechanical works, as you do generally get your money's worth, but this seems to take the piss a little! They even wanted to charge me to take out Fuse 22!
