Hi All,

Been a long time since posting on here!

Came out of my work to open my car and when I unlocked it, the front two windows went down halfway. I found this rather strange, then I entered the car and put the windows up. I then locked and unlocked it many times to see if it were to happen again- unfortunately I couldn't replicate the issue. Then I tried starting the car up, but the car couldn't find the keyfob within the reach of the cabin(key-less entry).

So I would like to know if anyone else has any similar issues or would know what the problem/s could be?

I think some cars do this if you either double tap the unlock button or hold it for a few seconds.

With BMWs, if you hold the unlock button on your keyfob, it opens all the window remotely till you let go. Maybe your keyfob button was stuck down and then you walked away before there was enough signal to open all the windows.

EDIT: Three replies at 8.04

I have this feature on my 3 series convertible. It is designed to allow easier access in and out of the car if you are in a tight space. Until you try it, you actually do wonder how it helps in such a situation, but it is a very helpful feature.

Obviously only useful with frameless windows and with the larger doors on a 2 door convertible.

I guess as you mentioned the front doors, your 1 series is not a convertible so not sure how the feature wold help you.

To replicate it, I think you need to blip the remote three times to access the feature. The windows then only drop when you actually open the door.

Open all the way down is activated by holding the open button down. Open halfway happens when you press the button twice, e.g. once in your pocket by accident when approaching the car and once when you are next to the car. As others have said it's a handy feature with frameless doors.

I had the exact same issue on my 1 series coupe. Most of the time the window dropped an inch max when opening the door, but randomly it sent the window half way down instead. Could I ever replicate it in front of the dealer? Nope.

The lock and unlock buttons do close / open the windows when you press and hold, but you've got to do that for a second or more
