Updated V5 needed?

Sent my V5 off to the DVLA to get the address updated a week or so ago. No problem there but looking on the web it seems like it could take 4 weeks to come back (maybe more given it's coming up to Christmas!).

Of course, sod's law dictates that a saw a decent offer / drove a Fiesta ST at the local Ford dealer who would take my car in PX. Question is, would I need to have the updated V5 in order to progress with the deal / offer?
