I approached a dealer today, who offered me 5k

Naieve praps, but I thought dealers marked cars up by several k, didnt realise they chopped the value in half before buying.

So its pistonheads, Autotrader I guess, anywhere else I might advertise?

Ive been told that this time of year is never good, when it comes to sales :grumble grumble: - How long did it take other S owners to sell theirs, and... are V8S's harder to sell than the V6's - Ive heard this is the case, as buyers might consider an early chim.

Hoping I'll sell in the next 6 weeks... Ive got a fantastic car at a fantastic price, its in tip top shape but Ive also found THE cerb I want to buy, and feel like time is against me

I offered my old s3 to Adrian Blythe through an ad they had out asking for cars to sell (a couple of years ago now) and they didn't even reply... a bit off I thought considering I bought it from them in the first place, a simple 'no thanks' would have been more courteous.

I got most interest from autotrader by a big margin but I priced mine at about 500 quid less than the average price on autotrader but the prices on there are quite high anyway so got a pretty reasonable price. PH is always worth a go as it's free but didn't attract any interest (it is good to direct enquiries to the for sale ad on PH though and it gets more hits for Ted). Find-it was a complete waste of time and only attracted time wasters ime.

Good luck,

Mark

Put the ad for my S2 up and sold in a couple of days on here.

IMHO you wont get the same number of 'tyre kickers' from PH as you would from say, an autotrader ad, as the audience is so much more focussed.

You also get to track the progress of you car once its sold - which I quite like... Good luck Harry! (who's picking up the S2 tonight!)

I sold mine (V6) in just over a week through PH and, as Mark says, it has the advantage of being free. I also placed an ad on the TVRCC site, which is free, but you do need to be a member to do this.

It's also worth planning your ad carefully, ensuring that you highlight any work you've had done to the car, especially with regard to known problem areas such as the chassis. At the end of the day, you need to make your V8S stand out as THE one to buy!

Good luck with the sale!

10 minutes...!

Wrote the ad, turned the PC off, sat down to watch Indiana Jones... phone rang...

Dealers don't bother with S's generally... better to advertise via word of mouth and PH. Let the TVRCC RO's know... I'll mention in at the weekend to Yellow Peril for you.

Cheers Podie, thanks for the replies guys!

Only you could sell a car in 10 mins pod Mine is a cracking example of a V8S, excellent price too, and having found my dream car Im worried sick the buyers wont emerge until spring and warmer weather and my cerb will be gone.

Woe is me and all that

How about another raffle everyone

I saw a 4.3 Chim advertised by a dealer a few months back which was why I advertised the S and he offered me £5k for my S and the Chim was only £8.5k but needed tidying up so I decided to keep the S and wait for a while.

I think your car Rob is a nice example and you have spent a fair bit on it and you should be looking to get some of that very recent expense back.

You may as well advertise here IMHO as you can place a free ad but the Autotrader does seem to shift S's at a good price. I bought mine through the Autotrader and when I phoned about a few others most had been sold.

I've also been considering parting with the S recently and moving up. I may wait until the spring when the weather improves.

That's a good idea, worth spending £100 on a ticket for a nice car such as yours, or mine

It did indeed - a combination of factors; I live near Tim and could get down to see the car quickly, it was at a low price for an S (due to list of work that needs doing and the fact it was stolen/recovered in the past), and I was prepared to tinker.

From a buyer's point of view, buying a car through PH is great; small community, you can check the car's provenance and faults (and whether they were dealt with) by snooping on the 'search forum' function (not really necessary in my case as Tim was totaly upfront about her faults) and you can even get in touch with the previous owner is he was a PHer too - as I did.

All brilliant - but only if you're a PHer. You're relying on a small, focussed audience as a seler on PH. Sure, if another PHers wants to buy, the sale is likely to be to someone who has researched, is less likely to waste your time and is going to be honest; but of course there are still no guarantees. And prices on PH are lower; autotrader Ss seem to be highly priced.

If I ever have to sell my car (and I hope I don't - I am cutting back on the beer and clubbing habits to allow a lengthy ownership!), I will try on PH first. This is because:

- it is free
- my car is not typical in lacking history and having an HPI black mark; this is less likely to frighten a PHer buyer who can check out the car's history on here, than it is to frighten off an autotrader buyer. I have a feeling it could be quite hard to sell my car to someone who doesn't know the marque and the breed, with its lack of history.

You'd be surprised how many people look at the classifieds, but not the forums… in fact the buyer of my S has still (to my disappointment) yet to appear on the forums...

Thats odd - I would have thought that the reason your sold so quickly was due to its provenance amoungst the PH community -

Unless the chap was a 'lurker'

for some reason that term always make me think of farts

Bought and sold my S through PH so it gets the thumbs up from me and will use it again next time.

Time is of the essence though for your Cerbera purchase, so splash on on AutoTrader too, as there are people watching it on the hour, the previous owner of my Cerbera has three calls within the hour of advertising it!

The TVRCC site, as has been said is worth a look, but it will take almost month to get in Sprint and fewer people read the classified there. Of the five or six enquiries I had for the S, only one as I recall from from Sprint/TVRCC.

Good luck!

The buyer of mine did the same as Podie's. In fact he didn't even know that the forums existed, and he hasn't posted at all since taking ownership either!

Probably the best chance for anyone thinking of getting a V8S or trading up from a V6 to do it now IMHO.
The V8S's are not normally so abundant and IMHO are unlikely to be again in the forseeable future.
Roll up.....................

Yeah, but mines the shiniest, most horses, best looked after

I agree with Harry, when I was shopping around for my V8S, I was [plug]lucky to find such a good one[/self-plug] from the few on offer!

There really wasn't much around 6 months ago. Ive had 3 enquiries, including the imaginary call I had in my sleep last night, in only 5 days. With luck she'll sell by the end of Jan.

Come on buyers, its an absolutely cracking car - you'd be hard pushed to find another one as good, especially for the price!
