So it's about 3:15 pm and the road outside my in-laws house in suddenly full of cars, driven by women who are picking their kids up from the primary school around the corner. I have foolishly parked in the in laws drive, and am amazed that 2 cars have parked blocking me in. Not a problem, I'm hoping for a bit of cake to go with my mug of tea, so I'm sure they'll be gone. Plus don't want to wind up father in law as he might keel over.
Then I notice a woman in an X5 drive into next doors drive, get out and off she goes to pick up her kids on foot.
Father in Law informs me that it only happens on the days that the owners are at work, usually 3 or 4 times a week, and the owners have no idea who this person is. (Father in Law perhaps a little nosey but hey)
Oddly, despite the fact that both of the couple next door are coppers, they can't be arsed to find out who this person is.
I guess she's doing no harm, but if I knew someone was parking in my drive, I'd be wanting to know who was that narcissistic that they thought it acceptable.

I'd find out who it was, then offer them the spot for a small fee each month for some VIP parking (Very Important Parent).

Thats fairly common at the schools around here. Its only a fairly recent, past year or so. Its a good time to be in the gate business round here. They dump them anywhere there is space. Verges, Paths, Center Hatchings and even people front gardens on the grass. It seems that as long as little johny gets to school on time anything goes. Personally if it was me would poor nails over my drive as they swing in at speed and they would never see them.

Happens to my parents, not with schools, but with people going shopping. They live in the middle of town, about 150m from the two square, in a town of about 20,000 people. They are always getting people parking in their drive on weekends and evenings. It's annoying as hell when people block the drive, even more annoying when their reply to asking them not to do it is either "I didn't know I wasn't aloud to" (It is quite obviously a private house and not a business) or in some cases to get abusive. Unfortunately the conservation officer won't let them put up gates as it is listed.

Dear Sir.

I dispute the title of this thread. I was expecting an witty anecdote about an X5 parked in a river, or on it's roof, or similar. Imagine my bitter disappointment upon realising the sheer banality of the original post. It was in no way amusing, and is a disgrace to be labelled as such. My solicitors shall be contacting you imminently to discuss the waste of my time.

Kind regards,
Chris

I live a few houses away from our village school and it's never caused us a problem.

Parents park outside our house, but they don't park on the grass or block the drive.

Apparently right at the gates (perhaps 75yds from us) can be pandemonium though as many parent assume the zigzags are their reserved pick-up point.

Oh my god.

Oh my god.

I cannot believe someone have the audacity and colossal sense of self-entitlement to behave like that. I'd go spud mental if I found someone doing that.

OP, from memory trespass is actionable per se (ie you don't need to prove damage to be entitled to legal redress), so if it should happen to your in laws (it seems as though the people this woman is currently doing it to don't care) they ought to be in a relatively strong position.

This.

I'm about 1/2 mile away from a school and the goings on wind me up. Its the lack of thought for anyone else.

How about one of those lift-up posts that swing up from the drive - is that not allowed?

failing that, I'd dig a moat, install a trebuchet, and launch rocks engraved with "is that in keeping with the period then, Mr PITA Planning Officer?"

To help ease congestion they painted double yellows for 50m either side of my kids' school (we live 200m from school and walk), and parents obeyed them for a couple of weeks. It's quite amusing nowadays to see parents blatantly ignoring the double yellows so they and their precious cargo don't have to walk an extra 50 metres. Police don't seem to give a toss even though they could earn £500 for ten minutes' work...

Oh yes, quite hilarious.

Anyway, OP similar thing happens where I live.
Primary school across the road and a Nursery 2 doors down.
At that time of the day the street fills with cars and parked anywhere they see fit, OH mother's car was dented quite heavily on the driver side door a fewq months ago.
As expected no note left, I thought about CCTV but then I realised having CCTV looking in the direction of a Primary school and a nursery may cause me more hassle hehe

[sweeping generalisation]
You're assuming that women who drive X5s on a school run have the ability to think.

Not just parents.

I live about half a mile away from Halifax town centre. Often see a guy in a TypeR pull out of the small estate between my house and town and drive off down the road. By the time I've walked into town, I often see him driving around the roads near the swimming pool looking for a free parking space. Idiot.

I'd be booby trapping my drive somehow, I'm thinking something along the lines of a big hole covered with something.
