I am in the process of choosing a company car.

I have the choice of an 'interesting' car (Focus ST-2, BMW 120D Sport, Golf GTD) which tick a lot of boxes in my criteria. However, these cars are already at the top of the range in terms of CO2 based taxation.

Given the current fashion of questioning the green credentials of diesel cars with respect to NOX and particulates, does the collective think that future co. car tax rates might be increased to reflect this new political leaning? Like most co. car users I will be committed to the vehicle for 4 years.

In which case, my 'future proof' car choices are a bit more vanilla - Focus Zetec S, Octavia SE etc.

When the car taxation system changed from mileage to emissions around 15years ago, a colleague at the time had just taken delivery of a V6 Ford Galaxy. It was buttons to tax as he did huge mileage until the switch from mileage bands to CO2 crucified him!

From 2016/2017 tax year the current 3% uplift on diesel's compared to petrol's is being removed.
This may change if another government get's in or they change there mind following the current "research".

If I were you it would be the Focus ST-2 Diesel if your fuel if paid for and the Golf GTD a close second.
I have a new-ish Octavia 2.0TDI Elegance and its just as quick as the old Octavia VRS and not much slower than the GTD (but does lack the better rear suspension).

The ST-2 is a strong favorite but might just be on the small side. I quite fancy either a Zetec S or Titanium X Estate but am awaiting a demo drive to see if the 120bhp is enough.

I can't have an elegance, just a business SE Octavia and the interior is just a bit plain in that.

When I had a company car I just made sure the love of my car was proportionate to the tax. As as result I opted for a TVR. Tax was a bit hefty, but by gum it made me laugh.
