I've had my personal number plate transferred from old car to new car. Both company cars and as a business we've kept my old car as a pool car.

V5 for my new car came back Friday with my number on but V5 for old car didn't come back. As it's a company car the guy who looks after them refused to let me change the plates over as he had no V5 for old car so can't get plates - The MOT for the old car did come back with the cars original number on so it's obviously been processed.

I called him just to say ring DVLA and find out what the crack is as it's annoying me - I want my plate on. He called them earlier apparently and they said the V5's were sent out at the same time but the old car hasn't been sent to our company it's another company and because he can't name them they won't tell him what address it was sent to other than it's not our business address or company name.

Somewhere along the line someone has f*cked up the V5 because as I said the MOT has come back to us. How does this get sorted? It seems to be DVLA have affectively given away our car. Is there a way of finding out who they've sent it to?

Thanks

Impasse

Sounds like you're reliant on the postman rather than the DVLA. Patience.

No DVLA are saying the old car is now registered to another company and therefore won't talk to us about where the V5 is as it's not our - Data protection.

There's nothing stopping you putting your plate on your car now as you've got the paperwork for that one.

Your only hope is that whoever has the V5 for your old car sends it back to DVLA as 'nothing to do with them' and that someone back tracks the paperwork and sends it to you correctly. Expect it to have, possibly, gained an owner in the process though.

It's a human error mistake at DVLA unfortunately.

Our guy wouldn't change the cars over on MID so I was worried about changing the plate. DVLA have told him the old car is back on its old plates so he can change them now but the car is still registered somewhere else!

If the DVLA have made a mistake, it is up to them to sort it out. They should contact the company that they mistakenly sent your paperwork to and inform them that they need to send it back. They also need to inform anyone else that needs to know that the car so registered has been done so in error.

They should then send the correct paperwork to the OP, or his company.

They should..................but they probably won't.
