If you are into outdoor stuff Norway is great - hiking , x-c and downhill skiing etc. etc.

Outstanding scenery in the Jotunheimen, Jostadalsbreen , and Hardangavida / Hardangajokul areas .

Not as expensive as you may think - there is a superb network of hostels / huts in the mountains ... joining the Det Norsk Tourinforening (DNT) (sp?) makes it economical - many of the hostels are nicer than 4 star hotels in the UK.

I've watched loads of their films and would love to live there. The girls seem so friendly.

Just booked tickets for the Swedish rally with some of the lads - £30 for the 3 day pass, £45 quid for flights. Just need to sort out the accomodation now, but it does look like it's going to be cheaper than going to the Cardiff rally!!!

Stockholm

Brilliant city, nice and compact. Safe at any time of the day or night, just be careful as you would in any city.

Great bars/clubs/restaurants - not as pricey as you'd think if you take the time to look around a bit.

Loads of culture too. A day in Skansen is quite interesting, as is the Vasamuseet.

Some great shops for all things Swedish, from tiny tree ornaments to cutting edge furniture.

There's also the Volvo and Saab factories if you're travelling further afield than Stockholm.

Lots of spot on stuff about Stockholm

Vasa museum definitely worth a visit. Lots of boat trips out into the islands of the archipeligo - smashing way to spend a summer afternoon.
Going out - Sodermalm is great, and if you get a chance there is an Ice bar in the hotel next to the Central station. Pricey and bloody cold, but highly recommended

Spent most of December in Sweden and am a regular visitor due to work.

Great people, wonderful landscapes and some great deals to be had, despite
the current bad rate of exchange.

Helsinki is also a lovely city for a few days break - interesting mix of Russian and Swedish architecture, good bars ,restaurants and museums.

Beer is cheaper than the rest of Scandinavia too- about £3 or so a pint.

edit to add ... mixed Saunas too

Lovely part of the world. I have visted Copenhagen (Denmark) which is very nice, and Malmo, Sweden (a bit industrial, but still some lovely places to go). It was very cold (I was there in January I think). Parents have done a boat cruise of all the fjords in Norway, up to the Arctic Circle.

Must go back there

Lived in Sweden for 18 months. CPH is definitely very nice and Helsinki will be bleeding cold at this time of year. Favourite is (predictably) Stockholm. Squares to go out at are Ostermalmstorg or Odenplan. Both are both very nice. Café Opera I found to be pretty cool as well. In Sodermalm (Medborgarplatsen) you will find loads of smaller places. Nice for a pub crawl.

Sights: Vasamuseet has to be seen, as well as Gamla Stan, and Skansen.

For shopping the streets between NK (big very nice dept store) and Ostermalmstorg are the best.

Public transport couldn’t be easier and safer, and the people are very friendly. For a city there is a ridiculously low crime rate.

I go to Sweden on business about 6 times a year. One word of warning, avoid buying alcahol in the cities. It's not unusual to pay £6 for a pint of beer in hotels in Stockholm. Not as bad out of the cities, but it's still pricy.

I lived in Copenhagen for 6 years , then Stockholm for 4 years and now (for the moment) 3 years in Malmo

Hated Stockholm , just did not like it , Copenhagen however is another story , i think it is about the best city in the world , and Denmark is one of the nicest countrys , expensive yes but so clean organised and the people are the best .

Lived in Helsinki last year, visited stockholm a couple of times and went to tallin (estonia) also. All three are quite nice cities. Tallin is fantastic for a day. The old town is lovely the rest is a bit of a dump. Beer is cheap there. Helsinki could amuse you for about three days I would say. Lots of countryside around it though. A visit to the lakes is worthwhile. This time of year in Helsinki it'll be between -15 and -25 I would expect. Its not as cold as it sounds.

Stockholm is very picturesque.
