Folks are going to be looking to go from 2 cars to 1 (nearly new) car next year. It's likely to be a Fiesta so nothing extravagant but I'm trying to work out which of their two cars would be best offered in part exchange. They won't want the hassle of 2 private sales but one will have to be sold that way.

They currently have a 3 year old Fiesta with about 20k on the clock, which would probably appeal more to a Ford dealership, and a 57 plate Cooper S. However, the S has done less than 10k and is immaculate, almost like new. Both cars are in great nick and best described as "mollycoddled"!

I'd have thought that it would be best to offer the Fiesta as the px and the Mini would be an easier sell privately?

Trading either of those low mileage car in akin to throwing £1,000 down the drain !!
Whatever the best bid you get in px will be at least £1k less than a quick private sale from a £40 auto trader ad - private buyers go crazy for such low mileage cars ( they will virtually sell themselves with such low miles ).

I agree - but the folks are set in their ways and haven't sold a car privately for years!

I'd hope that the Mini would go quickly but I know it'll fall to me to do the selling bit! I'd like it myself but don't have the cash frown

Offer to sell them on their behalf and pocket the difference between the private sale and the part ex?

I'd px the Fiesta and offer the Mini to your nearest dealer - if it's been kept with FDSH I'd be surprised if they don't want it for stock.

Agree with this idea in principle but they are set in their ways and aren't fussed about chasing the very best return financially.

Maybe I should convince them to put the Mini away for another 15 years then sell it to 4 star classics for a million space bucks. biggrin

It's been serviced by the same Mini franchise every year - hadn't thought about offering it to them but guess they'd sell it easily so worth a punt!

Part ex Fezza and sell MINI.

Maybe try WBAC. Maybe get a slightly better deal than the dealer.
