Christmas "music"

Having been subjected to the disturbingly short playlist on the office radio for an unpleasant number of days now; and i can only imagine the horror of suffering shop workers at this time of year with Slade on permanent repeat - my question to the PH massive is, does this situation exist elsewhere on the planet (i'm guessing the USA), or is appalling Christmas music a British peculiarity?

I really feel for anyone in any sort of public facing retail position - shops, pubs, restaurants etc. Two months of solid Slade/Wizzard/Mariah Carey/Pogues/Band Aid etc - it would send me absolutely loopy. Dreadful.

I've worked out that I've heard every song on CD 1 of "Now That's What I Call Christmas" approximately 162 times in the last 10 days. There won't be any Christmas songs in our house for the next few days

Slightly along the same lines, I suspect even more annoying than having to listen to Christmas songs all day every day in a shop, must be the likes of Hobbycraft (I think, might have been somewhere else) who was playing one of those cheapo Christmas CDs where other people sing the hits of Christmas. Is it really that much cheaper for them to play these knock-offs that to pay PRS on the originals?

Same here, as soon as it hit December 1st, it was non-stop Christmas "hits" until January, I still shudder to think about it.

My first ever job was aged 16 working the tills in Wilkinsons - they had 5 tracks on an endless loop. To this day I despise every last one (except AC/DC's Mistress for Christmas), with particular hatred being reserved for the Slade and Wizard ones
