Having real problems getting them to communicate, they are just not responding to their preferred method of email communication. Anyone have experience of this and/or can suggest the best way to communicate?

Chairman of the company, David Atherton, can be emailed direct on da(at)dabs.com

I once had a problem with a delivery, used that address, and got things sorted fairly quickly. Of course, it may not be the man himself, but it worked for me.

They've stuck a message on both tel numbers telling you to go to the web site and then cut you off - very helpful. Will see if the email address produces anything.

they changed their policy a while back where they no longer accept any telephone calls and will only accept communication via email. They did it so that they could get rid of their call-centre and save money.

It's a case of, hope you don't have any problems with Dabs when you order IMO

I had to get Trading Standards involved to get any response out of them at all. They have now changed things even further so as you get an automated email back that is generated via some sort of matching to the message you type. If this doesn't help you then there seems to be no way of getting a real person to help at all.

The moral of the story: before you buy anything from the web check that there is a customer service phone number!

There appears to be a pattern emerging. Type a few key words in to Google, something like 'DABS' and 'problem' and there is feast of unsatisfied customers going back several years.

I normally take a reasoned approach to such matters but it looks like I'd better start off with the legal threats this time.

Has anyone tried dropping in to their head office in Bolton and confronting them?

Surely there must be a BBC watchdog type story here?

I had a nightmare with them a while back and can only agree that their customer service is not a service to the customer.

www.overclockers.co.uk

they have a forum as well to discuss products so if you have any problems just log into the forums and ask about. all the staff, and more importantly the owner of OCuk, log into the forums regularly.

Never used them, but they seem to have a good stock and i know a few people who have recommended them to me in the past.

Good luck with the DABS problem.

To be honest I've used most of the big on-line shops...and had problems at various times with all of them. The best ok orders V problem orders has been Scan for me.

It's best to remember that these companies ship massive numbers of orders per day, and there's going to be the odd issue. People only tend to post the bad times so Google will make most companies look bad.

Also remember Ted's posting rules....

Rico (Andrew) thanks for the link.

Phil - take your point about Google showing more negatives than positives and Ted's rules. I haven't posted details of my issue only reported facts.

But the DABS web site and their automated email response promise things that they simply don't deliver. They've even 'disconnected' their own web link that invites you to comment on their published policies, which they're simply not adhering to (all facts).

I run a business that depends heavily on the web for sales, I've even run a banner on PH, and I could't dream of providing the type of customer service that I have now witnessed if I want my business to survive.

It doesn't matter how may units you are selling, if you don't invest sufficiently in customer service, espcially when you are messing up, ultimately you are going to lose cusomers, it's a fact of business. And your customers are becoming better and better informed about you products and your quality of customer service.

My feeling from research so far is that there is something wrong here and as a matter of principle I'm going to take the appropriate action with them to highlight their failures and resolve my issue. I can afford to walk away from experience but despite this others should be aware of the facts before they buy and be able to make an informed choice (based on facts).

I've written to their Chairman and subject to his response I will begin several forms of action including contacting BBC Watchdog, Trading Standards, legal etc. They just can't be allowed, even once, to get away with making promises to their customers and failing to deliver, especially when they've been paid upfront. They are breaking the fundamental rule of business - trust.

I know where you're coming from. It's sad isn't it that good customer service is a surprise rather than the norm. Good luck and I hope you get it solved one way or another.

Used to go to dabs all the time - if we needed something quick we used to drive there and pick it up. We now have to wait 1-2 days for a delivery.

I now go to Scan for emergencies instead as they still have counter sales.

Scan's customer service used to be appauling, but I think they realised that was how they can beat dabs and it seems to be working.

I remember (in the old days) when scan was in a small hut with a tiny waiting room like a dentists and sitting there for hours waiting to be served!

Seems like you can have:

A) Cheapest prices and no customer service
B) Customer service but higher prices - after all the people's salaries have to come from somewhere.

And of course everyone just wants cheap cheap cheap. We all do it: we trawl the internet - £90, hmm, £80, better, ah £75, brilliant £69.95 - something has to give...

Looks like this is turning in to a thread on Customer Service.

The bottom line is if you don't give good customer service then your business is unsustainable in the longer term. You might grow it in the short term but if you want long term sustainable growth, whether it be account managing large organisations or assisting an individual customer, you have to provide good customer service.
