Evening all. This is my situation, I am a British expat living in the U.S. My family live in Manchester and I've not spent as much time with as should have, my mum is getting older and i'm trying to visit more often.

I wouldn't mind an ep2 civic type r.

How much is an mot? If an mot expires is there a fine when I come to renew it.

What year was it when it the road tax went crazy expensive.

Other than leaving the battery on a tender is there anything else I need to consider.

If a car is sorn, how long does it take and coat to renew road tax?

Thanks in advance.

Tbh, for 4 weeks a year it sounds like a ballache

I'd just rent something when I needed it.

Is your Mum able to sort out all the maintenance/problems with the car when you're not about? Get it all ready for you twice a year?

What you're describing sounds like a very expensive exercise. As has been suggested, hire a car when you're over here. In the summer you can even hire a classic car if you want. You'll have great fun choosing the "next" car to hire and it will save you a fortune. Plus nothing for you (or your family) to worry about, you'll just hand it back each time.

Nope, no problem at all. Just take it for a shiny new ticket.

Road tax is CO2-based for cars after '01, and there's a couple of extra top-end bands for cars after '06.

Takes about two minutes on t'internet, assuming the car's insured and tested, and the cost depends on the car's CO2 - from zero to £500ish per year... But if you're only coming over for a few weeks at a time, tax it and then cancel it when you go back.
