Started searching for a nice used 991S but very few outside the main dealers. If anyone is thinking of selling a nicely specced car then speek now!

Not many sellers at this level want to advertise and have home visits from complete strangers to look at their £60k+ mobile valuable. Also most buyers at this level need the security of dealership purchase and finance packages. I have sold at this level and the buyer got a great deal but I would only want to buy at this level from me smile

I would generally expect nearly all 1-2 year old high-end cars to be within the dealership network, mostly because people with that kind of money tend to like the convenience/simplicity of dealing with a main dealer and can afford to pay the premium.

The number of "second hand" Ferraris with 1,000 miles on the clock makes me cry

I had mine up for sale in Sep-Oct 2013.. To be honest I only had it on PH and not on AT.. maybe I should have put it there too.. but I think I got 2 phone calls from private buyers. One asked me why it was Aqua Blue and not Black (...) the other one seemed interested but then disappeared after I refused a low-ball offer which was lower than the dealer's.

I then got plenty of OPC buyers calling in.. probably b/c they knew the value of the car with pretty much all the boxed ticked (down to the ventilated seats..), all very interested in the car, had a buyer for it ready in line.. etc etc.. only to low-ball me again. In the end traded it in with Hatfield for a fair price for an OPC but around 7k less of what they sold it for.. car was immaculate so didnt need for anything but an alloy kerb refurb.

Maybe it was the time of the year, maybe the Aqua Blue which for a Carrera S is a touch exotic (but still to my eyes the most beautiful metallic blue Porsche has made on modern 911s..), maybe I was a private seller, maybe the pictures were not professionally taken.. not sure. But it did not sell privately.

I think buyers are weary of such high-value cars sold by private sellers.. wrongly in my opinion as you get to meet the previous keeper face-to-face and get a sense of how well the car has been treated (read if they had the means to care for it). An inspection can take care of the mechanical bit, OPC doesn't do anything but kick tires when they buy cars. Warranty can cover the risk.

Finance can be arranged separately without any issues (Oracle Finance does it).

And there's no issue even if the car is on finance, a quick call to the Finance company will sort everything out with payment made to them.

So is it a couple of extra steps ? Yes. Do you get free OPC cool-aid and coffee ? Probably not.. but for me it's a no brainer going private if you can and the car is sound. In my experience when buying from OPC if things do go wrong they do nothing but provide the warranty service you would have had anyways with an extended warranty. Nothing more.

£7k markup, Jesus.

I have always sold privately and with a few exceptions always bought privately, including my current Porsche.

Dealers offer nothing but headaches, old wives tales and excuse; consequently I detest to pay their salaries.

Totally agree, would much rather buy and sell privately even at these prices
