PS4 - any great deals out there?
Discussion
Having discovered yesterday that the Wii games my wife bought for the kids for Christmas don't work as we have a Gen 1 Wii, we've decided to purchase a family PS4. I'm not a games expert and unlike most major purchases I've not done loads of research, but want to get it quickly as we feel a bit guilty.
So, are there any really great deals out there and are there any specific things I need to buy? I want to make sure I futureproof any purchase.
Cheers for the help, I'm now off to Google to do some searching myself.

You realise that the Wii U games won't work on the PS4 either, right?
There were some deals mentioned in this thread (Game springs to mind as having a good package available):-

Cheers - I'm very quickly realising I know nothing about consoles or online gaming, so it's a bit of a steep learning curve.

Game do seem to be the best, just trying to work out the best combo of games for me and the kids - it's all rather expensive.
If you go PS4 be sure to get a second joypad as they monster through their battery life quickly (that said, the newer pads seem better than the original ones). A lot of the games out there aren't massively suitable for kids, so be sure that you are comfortable with the software you are buying. Depending on the age range of your kids I would've thought that the Wii would offer a greater range of youth friendly software.

Cheers - they're 5 & 6. They are happy with the Wii, but having been to a number of parties over Christmas, most of their mates are proficient on Fifa and other PS games. I'm thinking Fifa 2015, Drive Club, Minecraft, Lego Batman, LittleBigPlanet 3, Skylanders etc. Plus I'll obviously get games for me, so there's an element of man maths going on.budfox said:
Picked up my PS4 a few days ago. A piece of junk. Constant crashes and games failing to start. PlayStation network down too.
It's going back to Asda tomorrow for a full refund.
It's the hackers fault, nothing to do with PlayStation. Put your toys back in the pram and wait a bit, like everybody else It's going back to Asda tomorrow for a full refund.

The thing is completely unreliable when it has no connection to PSN or the Internet. In offline mode Little Big Planet 3 and DriveClub will run once in about three attempts. Are you suggesting that this is related to hacking?
I bought my PS4 a few months back for £399 with 3 top games and with online plus while on special offer with game.
To be honest when I first got the machine it had quite a few software bugs till I got the updates downloaded and I was about to take it back.
But once I had the new downloads uploaded it's been as good as gold till about 3 days ago and now I can't get online due to the hacking problems but I also hear that the XBox one is also suffering the same problem.
I see that Argos today are doing the PS3 with a game for £299 and with a discount code I'm sure you could get that down a tenner to £289.
I find im really getting into war thunder at the mo (which is free) and there's so many good free games with playstation online that you don't really have to buy any games anyway and if I had known that before I would have gone for a cheap £299 package.

Actually turn off the internet connection in the settings. It's due to games trying to access online services etc.Other than network wide issues due to network attacks, I've had literally no issues.

I have turned off the Internet settings, it makes no difference.
All I can suggest is deleting the game data then, something must have gone wrong when installing, or an update etc, because obviously it shouldn't do this.Strange that when it connects to PSN it is fine though. Both do have known issues if the console thinks it can connect to PSN, but it can't, which is quite an unusual situation that only happens when PSN is down as it is now.
