Corsa C tappy engine
Discussion
If it's the 1.0 (Assuming as you said chain) I changed the oil on my Corsa B 1.0 which is the same engine, from 10w40 to 15w40 and it has made it sound a lot better as mine had started slightly tapping.
Also, even though it is obvious, check the oil. These engines don't run well at all with low oil.

Timing chain is unlikely to cause an EML light Andy.
Likely to be something seperate.
Without plugging it in you won't know, although there is a way you can do a pedal test on the Corsa to see what the fault code is.
I will have a look Rory, I wondered if the chain has stretched over the years and put the crank shaft sensor onLikely to be something seperate.

is the 1.2 not chain driven? Also, even though it is obvious, check the oil. These engines don't run well at all with low oil.

This. Very common on the nissan 1.5's. My mother in laws Almera had the timing chain stretch on only 38k miles. Early symptoms were an eml, caused by the cam/ crank sensor getting incorrect readings and showing as out of position. After this came rough running when cold. Then all the time and as I rolled it as best as I could to the mechanic it finally stopped running and would not start again.
